I'm pretty worried right now. My little sis, who's 15 (next week) had to be rushed from school to the hospital on thursday. They thought at first that it was appendicitis. Turned out it was an ovarian cyst that burst. So now I'm freaking out. She lives 6 hours away, so I can't question her docs the way I would like. So, does anyone know anything about this? My first thought was "she's way too young". But I guess obviously, that isn't the case. I've tried googling it, but I'm really looking for some firsthand knowledge (what this means for her, what she needs to do (alter her diet, medication, etc...) and so on) rather than medical definitions. Any information you know of? Thanks in advance!
Well I've had them, I can tell you that they hurt like hell. They (the doctors) wanted to put me on a progesterone pill to stop them but I went to a natural kinda store and they put me on a tincture called Cystoforce, which has lots of stuff in it, wild bearberry herb, echinacea, st. johns wort, sumach root bark, yarrow, flowering oats, belladonna, aspen bark and leaf. I take it once a week and I haven't had a cyst yet.
Well if your worried about reproductive health I have a friend who had the same thing.Only she had like 10 of them burst when she was very young(like 9). she now has 2 very healthy chidren and had very healthy pregnancis..so i wouldnt worry
There's not a lot of real advice I can give, without knowing what her bloodwork shows. No doubt the docs have/will do tests to check on her estrogen and progesterone, along with fasting blood glucose levels, etc. It could be that it was a freak incidence in her life, or she could have a medical condition such as PCOS. If it is PCOS, it can be handled in a number of ways - ranging from hormonal/medical therapy, certain other drugs (if it turns out she's insulin resistant or diabetic)... some herbal remedies such as dong quai or chickweed have shown to be effective against the cysts (dissolving or popping them before they get big and painful) but that's really treating the symptom, not the cause. If it does turn out to be PCOS though, I can say from experience that the BEST and FIRST way to tackle it is through diet and exercise. How's she recovering? Both her ovaries are all right now then? And has she ever had a problem with being overweight, or irregular periods? I know, it's hard to say with someone so young, but those points can really explain a lot! I hope everything turns out well. What a great sis you are to be so concerned!
She is slightly overweight, but has lost (I would guess) about 15 lbs recently. Her periods have always been fairly regular, although (for our family) she was kind of a late starter (I started when I was nine, most females in our fam started by 12.) She was 14 when she started. All I know so far is that her docs said that her blood tests didn't show anything abnormal. She says she's feeling a lot better, so I guess that's a good thing. AAARRGGGHHH!!! I just hate being so far away from her!
Also, alot of people (not going to cite, been at work all morning and my arms want to drop off) have connected eggs to ovarian problems
benotfree- that's interesting. I'd never heard that before, ut I'm definitely gonna poke around the internet and see what I can find.
I'll save you time I got it from my nutriton text book. Written by Anne-Marie Colbin called Food and Healing.
They are very common. I have one at the moment on my right ovary and my gyne doctor said that 90% of women have them and they go away without them even knowing. Not all have pain with them although ive heard some can be very painful. My GP said that its something to do with when eggs are produced and they dont release causing a sac which then fills. I wouldnt worry about it hun, if its burst then that should be the end of things. Jo x
