i wanted to know if i have this correct.

step 1: wash hair... do you condition?
step 2: put in small ponytails (section) or is it best to just randomly dread it in different places?
step 3: take a piece of hair and start at the root backcombing to the scalp. do you twist? i backcombed a piece of my hair last night and it got really nappy but it was itty bitty short afterwards. do you roll it back out mostly to get it longer?
step 4: tie with rubberbands or no?
how long should i wait before i wash my hair (will it stink if i wait that long)? again and also is it best to sleep with a stocking on your head?
should i use aloe while im dreading or wait a couple of days.
is it ok to wear beads as soon as your finished with the backcombing?
do dreads ever look greasy or oil to where they look wet (when you dont wash for a couple of days/week)
should i make a salt water mix and spray my locks with it before bedtime?
do you blow dry your locks after you get out of the shower (if you dont will they smell/mold)?

what are some tips to managing your dreads?

thanks everyone. i promise when i find out more about dreads i will post and answer other questions.. :)

    hehe take care everyone!!

    peace.

also if backcombing falls out, why do people do it? wouldnt it be a waste of 4hours-3 days. :/

do NOT condition. you can section or not. it shouldn't matter. do not twist. it doesn't help but you can palm roll. i guess you could roll it to get it longer but i wouldn't they will tighten and get skinnier on they're own. you can tie with bands but usually not a good idea. i would wait about a week before you wash your hair. you wont stink. just stuff them into a shower cap if you dont want them wet. not sure about aloe. yes, you can wear beads, but if your going to get your hair wet, take them off or your hair will mold underneath it. my hair didn't look greasy it acually felt dry. you can spray if you want. just rinse your hair aout after a while so salt residue doesn't stay in your hair. you can blow dry but it takes forever. just give em all a couple good squeeses with a towel and get out as much water as you can. th let them air dry or tie a towel around your head for a while.

i recently dreaded all of my hair. i used to have dreads on the top of my hair. but after i washed it and the ones on the bottom kinda came out but im sure if you just leave the hair alone after you dread it, it would be fine. at least i hope so
