hello all been a while since i have been on here. well i have noticed for the past few weeks that aiden has to chew on his hand or blanket or shirt when he is upset or after he gets ing trouble. i dont understand why he does this but chewing on his wrist seems to help him calm down. my question is this. is this normal behavior for two year old??? I havent made a big deal about it or nothing i just let him chew on his wrist or his blanket and after a minute or so he calms down and goes back to playing. oh also when he is getting ready to go to sleep he chew onhis blanket sometimes.

any thoughts or opinions would be helpful

    thanx

it sounds normal. a lot of kids do this for stimulation. usually they grow out of it.

Leane does this...she either chews on her blankie or tickles herself with the corner...but i used to do the same thing, so i know where she gets it from. I don't think that it's anything to be worried about. Is he still getting teeth in? leane has some molars and eye teeth coming in now and I think it helps with the pain.

aiden has all his teeth except his molars. it's just interesting to watch him he will just sit there and chew on his wrist or fingers until he is happy. lately i have been trying to get him to chew on his blanket more instead of his wrist but for some reason he prefers his wrist over his blanket.

Some tykes just need the soothing and stimulation more than others... I think it might be genetic. I come from a long line of hair twizzlers, blanky fondlers, thumb suckers, shirt chewers, hair suckers... Each of us seven kids had a "thing" we did to chill out. My Leo is the same way... He's a very sensory kid. He's almost three(August), and I'm only now starting to break him of his Binky. I let him have it so long to curb any other bad habits that might be harder to break(I was an AWFUL shirt and hair chewer) and during the day when he doesn't have his Binky(only to sleep now) he'll chew his fingers. Anyway, he's still close enough to being a baby that baby habits will still hang with him for awhile, in his mind the last two years is all he has to pull from. Same as us adults still occasionally listen to the totally dorky band that we liked a couple years back when we're in the mood. *haha*

it's just a self soothing thing. My daughter was a head banger. So many people were concerned about it that I asked her doctor and he told me that she was just learning to sooth herself and that if injury isnt occuring, it's just fine.
