NY used to have great action still around the seventies, but it did go down slowly after too many people were hearing about it, Frisco mostly sixties, then it went down deep. Washington , Phily, Conn, don't think they ever had any action. I wasn't in Boston in the sixties, but from what I hear it was probably better than NY, since when I was hanging out and meeting people around the eighties, I was impressed how smart and liberal people were. My pals from nyc never made it here; I had family here, so it was an easy transfer for me. From here I have been to all the states and Europe, but mostly I have travelled and stayed in all the towns and big cities in Californa. Three months is the longest I can stay anywhere else. I was looking around to see what I could call my home, but I felt compelled to leave the places because what I felt there every single time I went. Not everyone has the same needs and taste. I'ts better to experiment by travelling. California would be better if the police didn't control everything. NYC if it was cleaner. Philadelphia if people weren't so backwards. DC, was comfortable and liberal in the eighties, but now people say it's dangerous to even visit.
well, Im a fan of pirate ships, myself...... thanks, Hari, for your input. I know what you mean......I've checked out a few places in Florida and Arizona, each spending almost a year, if not more there. There was always something about those places that made me keep looking. Ive been to California, but haven't had the pleasure of really experiencing what it would be like to live there. Spent a few months camping and surfing SoCal,( not the place for me ) and was out in San Fran for a week this past September. I really liked the feel up there, but it was only an impression of a week's worth of exploring. But it is beautiful and I like the liberal mindset. Hopefully I can get to checking it out some more this coming summer.
I forgot Florida...maybe because it's red neck paradise...and well, it is as police controlled, if not worst than California. I did travel with a group of hippies, but I don't recommend it alone.
I was in a good part...Melbourne Beach, just south of Cocoa and Cape Canaveral.....great low-key beach town with great surf, but when the surf's not happening, and you dont fish, all you do is drink, or drive an hour into Orlando to see a show. But the area's really nice, but a liitle too quiet for someone like me, in their 20s.....im not a big partyer, but when you wanna let loose, the hour drive is too much of an effort.......and yes, there are some iffy parts......
Ahh...the eternal problem of the intentional community. It's all good and grand and everyone's free until it ages, life goes on, and one day your kids teacher is too stoned and free to notice him falling head first off the jungle gym, causing the little tyke to become a parapalegic. Then the lawyers get involved because someone's gotta be sued for negligence cause poor little billy moonshone needs a really *&&*^% expensive wheelchair now. We actually had a very similiar experience here with a stoned (or just permaspun) second grade teacher here in our hippie-heavy town. It's hard to find a balance that everyone's happy with but I really thought people were intelligent enough to know that no matter how open the town is you're NOT supposed to care for other peoples kids while high off your ass. I'm living in stoner-utopia and some days it drives me batty.
I've lived in northern California my whole life and it hasnt been bad but then again i don't have anything to judge it against. I would say for the most part you have layed back liberals hear which is great it has a good atmosphere about it. I live like 2 hours from SF but i don't go there often, it is a big fun place though. Also i am moving down to LA so the change of scenery will be intresting. if i don't like it down there then i will try to find my way back up here. also one of my teachers was saying that how the northern cal and bay area accent is one of the least offensive in the world. that's pretty cool i guess. If I told you I'd have to kill you..lol...no, really, but I'll give you a hint...it's in or around the emerald triangle.
I understand, by all means! I have heard of two "emerald triangles" - both unrelated to each other....one's east, and one's west..........
have you ever been to LA? I think that NorCal and SoCal should be two totally different states! I spent a week in LA, and that was about all I could take...but the surf's pretty decent
i haven't really experienced LA. i've been there before but just for a couple days at a time and i didn't go out or do much while there. anyways right now i don't have a lot of choice in the move. but maybe later... JOn
You misunderstood me. I don't mean and did not say stoners. I mean people who want to help each other out and be more involved in their community than normal. For instance, a city where the police officers walk their beat. Then you could save all the money that is being spent on squad cars and the equipment that goes in them. That money could be spent on payroll for more police officers. This would not only create more jobs, but it would allow them to get to know the members of the community instead of spending their time flicking their lights on to run redlights. I think that the problem in your hometown is that everyone there thinks "hippie" means "irresponsible stoner". I'm more into self-sustaining, barn-raising, gardening/farming, and such. These were the original reasons for socializing in the first place. It wasn't so everyone could take advantage of each other and do better than the next girl/guy. It was to survive the winter and be together. Technically, Anthony
