    yes,

send it to the victims of hurricane charley,
or the soon-to-be victims of hurricane frances...

failing that, churches are always good places.

a lot of churches have food pantries that distribute food to needy people.

take the religion and the politics out of it. help is help. however you can do the most immediate good is the best.

yes of course. but i wasn't suggesting that you feed a priest. food donated to a church does not go into the priest's fridge...

if you want to help out people in Sudan or something, hop on board with the international red cross. a lot of grocery stores have food donation programs too.

Yeah, sorry Fractual_, but I'm going to have to side with 4_Leaf_Clover on this one. I'm in no way religious, but I wouldn't have a problem giving to a church.

On another note, this school year, my high school is starting what is supposed to be a huge ass food drive. I plan on bringing in a bunch of cans of stuff. We're in a competition with another school, too. If we win, some local company is going to give us $5,000. We plan on using that money for more local benefits and to help fund our yearly blood drive. I guess I'm glad that my school actually *tries* to help people.

I think it is awesome you want to donate food to someone in need. You have a big heart.

The Hurricane victims is a great place to start. If not there I would find a local homeless shelter. There is a place near me that is for Family's. I donate all sorts of stuff to them because I know they will get it and pay nothing for it. Try calling Red Cross. They could even give you a list of places.

other than the hurricaine victims in florida, which is an awesome idea!, you could donate some food to me. i'm a needy college student with no money and no means to travel that far off campus without asking for rides:(, so food donations to me would be greatly appreciated;)

Actually, churches are more likely to give food to people who really do need it, without any cost.

Places like good will and salvation army will still try to make a profit from it if they can, but most churches give the donations directly to needy families.

My daughter was in an accident a few years ago. She was in the hospital over a month in traction because of it, and in a wheelchair for another month and a half after that. It took her over a year before she could walk well again. Things got really bad for us, and we needed some temporary assistance to help us make it through.

Goodwill and the salvation army wanted to charge for their services. It wasn't much, but at the time it was still more than we could handle. Churches would just give supplies for free, as long as your honestly in need of help.

Plus, my family lived in absolute poverty when I was young. We slept in the living room floor of a trailor with no heat, no electricity, no toilet, no washer/dryer....I could go on but I won't. Anyway, alot of times church donations were the only way me and my brothers and sisters got to eat, or have christmas, or even shoes. I know a little bit about how the system works. :)
