I gotta question for all you vegans out there. would you accept human breastmilk as a dairy alternative. i know that many people would find this taboo, but it at least theoretically gets around the moral dilemma, because the milk is given freely, naturally, and the giver is compensated...
While I have no problem with human babies drinking breastmilk... I don't feel that this is what it's supposed to be for. And there are a TON of issues that could come up, if this became a standard practice. I would fear for the health of the mama. love, mom
humans aren't really "made" to be able to drink milk, from any animal, after the age of 5 or 6. i breastfed my 3 kids for over a total of 5 years. makes me really sympathize with any animal thats milked for human consumption.
It's supposed to be a superfood, if it were healthy I'd consider it <vegan>. I would not strip anyone of their Vegan Title for drinking breastmilk - non-health related Veganism is to do with ethics, cruelty-free. I say do it, I may or may not. I try not to find anything that comes out of the human body weird. Placentas - what about that? Human Placentophagy? Now that's supposed to be exceedingly healthy and I'd rather eat or let that be eaten by someone who isn't freaked out by it, or bury it under a tree and so on rather than throwing it into the bin - it's not rubbish afterall. That said, I have never seen, heard or felt a placenta in my life, so I'm full of shit ~Love
humans are not to meant to drink milk once they can consume solids....the milk is used as a nutrition giver until an infant is about 2 years old and can be weened and then off to solids. All other species are this way, including humans
Exactly...im an adult i dont need a mother's milk I drink soya milk because it is a plant. I eat plants, as i can eat solids now
Most europeans have evolved a lactose tolerance over the years, so whether or not our ancestors were 'made' to drink milk is irrelevant, because i was...
health aspect for the consumer: human milk is 50 percent cholesterol to feed the forming/ growing brain. once weaned, you never need that level of cholesterol in the diet again.
"Most europeans have evolved a lactose tolerance over the years" Where's your citation for this? I would be very interested in looking into it more.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactose_intolerance under biology, second paragraph, if you don't trust wikipedia, i could try to find some other source.
But theres a reason milk is for babies and babies alone, tolerance or not. Our body may be coping with it but it doesnt need it or want it, too much fatty content, cholesterol, those kinds of things. Because human milk was made for tiny human beings (just as cows milk was for baby cows), to help them grow quickly, to help their bones form. For adults its pointless and more harm than good.
