we recycle paper at work- it's all private health info so it has to be shredded anyway. I recycle plastic and aluminum for my co-workers. I just put a bin in the break room and twice a month I take it to the recycling center. I'll take everyone's old phonebooks to the center when we get the new ones. A lot of people here fill their water bottles from the water cooler instead of buying more. We could do more, but at least we're doing something.
i made a emailbox so i could email teachers about what i should do about recycling. planrecycle@aim.com so far one teacher gave me some good info and the creater of my schools website sent me the principals email adress. I will make my shitty redneck ass school recycle!! and we will seem more smarterer.
My town has something called a "red top recycling scheme" in which every home is given a wheelie bin to fill up with recycable materials, such as plastic bottles, paper, cardboard, tins etc and once a fortnight the council comes and collects them. Only problem is that i live in a block of 6 flats and there are only three bins. And some of our neghbours, despite bieng told numerous times what should go in the bins, still put crap in the bin and the men won't take it. We had to resort to stealing one of the bins because at last that way we know what can go in there and we know that it can be recycled. As for work, we share the same rubbish area as mc donalds (sounds gross already dosen't it?) and it's filthy. But luckily there is a cardboard only bin which we can put all of our boxes into. But it overflows really quickly. We have also been given a new public waste disposal where people can drive into it and put their really large rubbish into such as unwanted electricals, garden waste, wood etc. through a window where it hits the floor of a large warehouse, which then gets taken away to be recycled. This only really came into effect over the last two years, and it's all thanks to the european union. For once i feel happy to be part of the EU!
I wish schools would recycle!!!! And my job we have a place where people bring in bags to recycle [plastic bags] and we don't recycle them we throw them away
i am involved in a peace club at my high school, and though its taken us 2 years, we've finally set up a recycling program - and the best thing is that it is so successful. we have raised a lot of money over the years, and at the beginning of the year we purchased about 15 or 20 large recycling containers (from a website...i can find the web address if anyone wants it) and placed them all around the school, especially in the cafeteria. each tuesday and thursday afterschool, members of peace club go around the school and collect whatever is in the bins (they're thiner and taller than garbage cans), and place the cans in the basement of the school in a bunch of garbage bins and a few shopping carts (that were probably stolen ), so they don't leak/attract ants. thursday, before school, we take all of the cans from the basement, and walk down the street and place them in the front lawn of one of our teachers, who pretty much saved the whole program by allowing us to do that. but its incredible - the amount of cans we've recycled. good luck : )
Well my school has the recycling bins. so i suppose they recycle..hopefully not throw it all in one place
I work at a hospice so we have to shred all the paper to protect patient confidentiality. Last year the shred-it company told us how many trees we saved--- 97 I thought that was pretty cool. They also recycle old toners for the printers, faxes, and copiers because they're refillable. Buuut that's pretty much it. I was thinking about giving everyone a personalized large coffee cup as a Christmas present. I think if we would all just keep our cup at our desks and re-wash it, then we would use less of the styrofoam cups which KILL the earth. I recycle at home though
Yeah my school does. Actually my whole fucking town does. Once I saw a person getting ready to throw away a plastic bottle instead of putting it in the big, bright blue bin with the white triangle of arrows a few people stared at him just waiting and the guy looked around and then moved toward the recycling bin and put the bottle in there. it was weird, fun and great!
Yes. There are recycling bins in every single classroom...plus several recycling bins all over the commons area.
It's good to know that the younger generation of today have picked up the message, and carried on with regards to recycling, concern for the environment, caring for the animals and nature. Good job. These were all integral parts of the hippie culture of the 60's. How we live our life now, will affect our future and that of future generations. Yes, where I work, we do recycling, it's even mandated by the state. But I must admit, there's still a lot of waste going on. It will take a while to change people's attitudes. But at least we are doing our part and moving in the right direction. Again, keep up the good work, everyone.
My school doesn't it it freaks me out to see all that paper go into the bins. Really, it is disgusting. I might bring it up with the SRC actually. Terrible waste - honestly.
