Possession of Marijuana, Need Advice..

Hello all,

I come to you all in a desperate and depressing time in my life.. About 10 months ago I was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (marijuana, had about 3-4 grams on me). I went to court and got a deferred judgement and placed on probation and 40 hours community service.. Things were going good until my long time girlfriend of 2 years broke up with me because she "found someone better". Well that basically ruined the life as I knew, because I was deeply in love with this girl and planning to be with her a very long time. Depression came very heavily so I turned to my good ol friend Mary Jane. At the time I didn't care what the concequences were of smoking weed while on probation for marijuana charge. I got away with smoking for about 4 months, until my probation officer dropped a urine analysis on me. A week later he calls me and tells me I have a warrant out for my arrest because of THC in my piss. Cops show up at my house and take me away to the county jail. I spent 18 hours in jail until I had to meet with the judge. I was released on my own with court date set to September 7th at 9am. I recently talked to my laywer and it looks like my probation is going to be revoked and I'm going to be charged with the original drug offense. My laywer says I'm looking at 2 days minimum in the county jail and up to $2,000 fines. I can deal with those but I'm really worried about how having this marijuana charge on my record is going to affect my life. I'm currently a sophmore in college and doing pretty well.. How bad does a Class 1 Misdemeanor look on a record, from the eyes of future bosses etc... I have been smoke free for about a week and a half now, I hate it but it looks like it's going to be a lot longer for me..

Misdemeanors aren't shit. Felonies are what people look at.

 

well if tis a place that does lots of drug testing im sure theyd care.

but if its a cool place the guy might just be like 'dude u got any weeeed on you man?'

 

Nah they won't do anything about past misdemeanors, even if htey heavily drug test. They care about current, not past. Unless it's a felony. Noone ever seems to want to hire a felon.

 

Aye ... employers -- in the United States at least -- aren't even allowed to ask you for misdemeanors and stuff, on job applications. They can find out through background checks, but they can only ask you if you have ever been *convicted* of a *felony,* they can't even ask if you've been arrested, you have to actually be convicted of a felony. =P Misdemeanors aren't convictions by any means, so you're safe.

At least, that's my understanding of it.

Besides, only dumbass employers really care about drug testing and background checks and stuff ...

 

Yea, I have never ever seen a job application that said "Have you been convicted of any misdemeanors?" Always asking about felonys.

 

i know a bunch of people who were arrested. my friend was at the movie theater when caughht by a cop smoking a fag and the cop found a piece and some bud on him and he spent 2 hours in jail and had to go to court. then some other kid was always getting arrested and going to court.


just try to stay clean or use that stuff to cleanse your system and best of luck to you.

damn dude, that REALLY sucks. i could deal with a couple of days in the pen, but $2000??? Ouch.
I'm sorry man.

 

Misdemeanors drop from your record in the US in 3-5 years, as long as you don't get the offense again. Also since its going to be revoked, you can have your lawyer setup a plea bargan, maybe add another $100 to your fines and it does not go on your record if your that worried about it. The justice system is just like a hooker, you can always get more with more money.

They must be real hard asses where you live. Here, they charge you with "less than 15 grams" and you go to magestrate court and have it held over 'till hell freezes over. They either end up throwing it out due to bad paperwork or the arresting officer doesn't show up.

Things have gotten to where they'll drug test you for just about any mainstream job now days and that's what they're really interested in.

But there are ALOT of other jobs out there- businesses run by pot heads. They don't give a rats ass. They'll burn one with you on your break. (I'd prefer to hire pot smokin' hippies over just about anyone, they get more done) College doesn't mean squat either. Unless you are planning on going into business for your self, and then you don't need to worry about it anyhow.

Live outside the mainstream.
