O.K so I read A LOT! I was reading papa Shulgin's book P.I.H.K.A.L, and came across some info about apiole and parsley oil, yada yada yada... Anyway I thought of several questions in response, and was wondering if any of you (polymer) had any relative info in regards. Here goes:

    1. Assuming that one is able to fractionally distill apiole from parsley seed oil, could it be as easy as simply substituting it for safrole in the ever so popular Wacker method?

    2. Assuming that it worked , would the intermediate ketone then be DMMD-P2P ?

    3. Would then one be able to continue with the Al amalgum and so on to eventually yield DMMDA, or would the end result be DMMDMA?

    4. Is there anybody, who knows anybody, that is in the least bit familiar with this, or are all of you sons-a-bitches just a bunch of steam distillin' mother truckers out there?

I guess if it aint broke then why bother trying to fix it, but it just seems so simple. Does adding the extra dimethoxy bond make it any more or less desireable to the average playa princess out there, or is it really just a matter of which precursors are available or more importantly NOT available???

    Thanks for y'alls expertise.

I was kinda hoping for more than bourbon and ice cubes... I know that it's not because the knowledge isn't out there... Why is everybody so timid all of the sudden... ? All of my questions are theoretical at best so why no replies? Anyway, Thanks again ahead of time for ANY related info and expertise that y'all might have...

I didn't mean the sons-a-bitches thing literally.... really.

    Take care,

THIS IS MY LAST ATTEMPT AT BEGGING FOR INFO?
I AM NOT planning on using this info for a synthesis, I AM SIMPLY seeking knowledge...
I am a 32 yr old male who after 12 years of being away from college, (girlfriend/baby/marriage-in that order...) am finally going back to school. After a year of Algebra and Trig refreshers, I plan on resuming my education in regards to Organic Chemistry, and was simply wondering how far/ or not so far off base I am with what I do and don't remember. I thought that my questions were pretty straight forward, but if I've stepped over any lines with the "steam distillation" comment, then I apologize. I just thought that someone here would be able to help out.
These posts seem to be a wealth of info, and if anyone out there simply has a link that will steer me in the right direction, I'd even appreciate that! I've only been around for a couple months, but in that amount of time, it sure seems that quite a few members of this forum have a tremendous understanding of the world of Organic Chemistry. I just thought that I'd try to pick yall's brains in regards to the subject. Again, I hope that I didn't offend anyone with either my "sons-a-biitches" or my "steam distilling mother truckers" comments... In no way was I trying to imply that ANYONE on these forums is associated with illegal activities or associated with being a trucker... Thanks again, and happy holidays.

man...I don't have the book; my friend does, so I'll have to take a look at it tomorrow when he comes over.

steam distillation would be nice, but it's not absolutely necessary. extraction, isolation, and column chromatography would probably suffice. 2 is correct, and 3, you'd probably be left with DMMDA...

i'll get back to ya on this one....

I knew YOU'D have something polymer... I look forward to your findings... And thanks again... Is "polymer" the new "Rhodium" ...hmmmm...
    Methinks perhaps.AAArrrgghhh.

^Perhaps, but your pretty good in your own right. Wouldn't it be simpler do distill out all the various allylbenzenzes in parsley to give a mix of psychedelic amphetamines in the final product?

indeed it would be; and it would be interesting to look into some isomerization of those final products (once they'd been isolated and washed), to possibly increase yield of the one you really seek. I may be going a bit overboard with this, but hey, it's possible with cannabis (isomerizing the various cannabinols all to delta-THC, using acetic acid) .
Maybe the phenethylamines would require a phase-transfer catalyst, like adogen 464.

Wouldn't this make all of the corresponding chemical bonds fight for their structure so to speak. Like if DMMD-P-2-P was the intermediate ketone you were trying to produce, wouldn't another allylbenzene present, other than apiole, make this difficult? I've read Strikes comments about this "Psychedelic amphetamine cocktail", and was somewhat skeptical as to how that specifically would work. Assuming that you DID go ahead and use all of the allylbenzenes in parsley oil (eugenol, apiole, ect.), what exactly would you be able to expect your ketone to be?

Not ketone but ketones, one for each allybenzene in the oil. Could this fuck up the reaction somehow? Certainly possible, only one way to find out I guess.

A link to the chemistry involved would be greatly appriciated. Recently found a source for various cannabinals. The prices probably make it impractical, but curiousity remains.

Stumbled upon this old thread. Whether the end product would be DMMDA or DMMDMA depends on if you use ammonia or methyl-amine. Strike's routes should be entirely applicable.
