And the results for the Scottish elections should start to trickle in in a few hours. Fuck I hope the nats don't get in
I didn't get a vote. And the communist party here are Stalinist fucks. I would vote Labour, who do have reactoinary right wingers at the top, but the working class conciousness is still related to the labour party, and the unions are still affilliated. Its a "change it from the inside" kind of job.
I just hope Scotland won't live Québec-style referendum drama ... And, are there election night broadcasts on TV ? Here we've got ''La soirée des élection'' (The Election Night) with Bernard Derome ? If you had the right to vote, from whom would you have voted ?
Well, the scottish nationalist party look like they will gain a simple majority (but its a close thing, labour may yet pull it out), but will need a coallition with the liberal democrats to take government. The Lib dems have, however, said that they wont enter a coallition with them if they insist on calling for a referendum, but, its expected if the SNP decide to say they will add a 3rd option to the ballot allowing people to vote for more devolved power but not independance, they will form a coallition government. We do have election broadcasts, in about an hour ill go and start watching, cuz thats when results will begin to come in. And i answered your last question in my last post
How many parties can you choose from? Isn't there some leftwing green party or socialistic party there?
We vote people in using the additional member system, so theres is limited choice on the constituency ballot, just the 4 main parties, but on the regional list, theres loads of parties, including the greens and 3 socialist parties (although 1 is a relic of a stalinist party who really shouldnt bother, and the other 2 have recently split from each other, and it's all very bitter)
SO the SNP have won, but by only 1 seat. They need a coalition with the lib dems and the greens to get a very shakey majority, and they'd be struggling to get that.
I was under the impression that the Scottish Parliament had no real power anyway and was just nationalistic masturbation. The UK isn't a federal state, after all. I'm pretty sure I wrote a paper on this first year.
Its pretty similar to being federal, its just their powers could in theory be taken back by central. It does control the NHS, law, education, transport and more. And It looks like it'll be minority govenrment, as i cant see the tories joining with labour.
