    Islam & Drugs

Islam prohibits (unless for medical purpose)...
    Alcohol
    Cannabis
    Opium (and all it's bi-products)
    Cocaine (and it's bi-products)
    Psycehelics

    Islam accepts general consumption of...
    Tea
    Coffee
    Tobacco (Shisa, I take it)
Khat (In some parts of the Islamic World it is traditional)
    Caffenie

And someone tell me where the Holy Koran talks about drugs?

Actually, caffeine is only supposed to be used when necessary,
and tobacco isn't supposed to be used at all.
Both of these are widely used by muslims, but in all seriousness they shouldn't be.

The reason drugs are prohibited is that 1)they interfere with the mind such that we cannot be focused to the extent we should be on our religion, and 2)they invariably have harmful effects on the body.
Personally, I don't think it's right to prohibit something without first understanding it, and I'm guilty of taking a lot of drugs. But just know, whatever you do, they are prohibited for a reason, and you'll probably figure out what it is if you try them,if you think that's really necessary.

If you have any questions about specific rules, Reliance of the Traveler is a really good resource for that, and has great citation and explanation for everything. Also, askimam.org (I think that's it) is very valuable if, like I was when I fist reverted and to some extent still am, you might be shy about going to the imam at your local masjid with your questions.

    Assalamu Aleikom
    good luck with your studies

As far as i am aware.... and im actually sure.... Qat (what u call khat), is only seem as halal (permissable) in yemen, and somalia.. and that is due to the predisposition of the people to it as a part of their everyday life. Actually it is not an old tradition, but a new one, since it only grows in certain regions, and transport was not very good in the past in yemen, so qat consumption was limited to the places where it was grown.
Saudi has out-lawed qat, and jurists all over the world (including many yemeni jurists) have ruled that it is infact haram (not permissable).

There is a growing movement within Islam that is opposed to the use of tobacco and are saying that it is in fact haram, given the bad effects it has on your health. Muslims have been directed NOT to do that which harms themselves, and thus even if it was previously deemed halal (permissable) though makruh (not advisable), (given that science now conclusively proves that smoking is 100% without a doubt bad for you) there is now signs up in mosques throughout the world saying "Please do not smoke on our premises, as smoking is haram".

Then they are a nice person and a good muslim who happens to be a drug addict. That's between him and Allah subhanahu wa'tala. We have no right to judge him. We can give him advice, and try to help him through a difficulty he may be having, but nobody has the right to say they are a better person than he.

I know there are some Saudi brothers here who tell me that Khat can cause cancer in the mouth and is extremely addicting. I heard stories of people just chewing khat for hours on end.
