So...what is being done to limit corporate power?

It is very obvious to me that the high levels of poverty, crime, hunger, and pollution we're still experiencing with our current level technology (which is sufficient to make all these things obsolete IMO) are largely corporate problems, products of these lumbering and extremely powerful entities who have only the simplest and most base objectives in mind (KEEP MYSELF ALIVE! OBTAIN MOOORE!) that have no obligations to the common man or the planet itself. These clumsy (yet extremely intelligent in a very narrow way) behemoths thoughtlessly trample humanity, imagination, and all elements of nature beneath their selfish feet. They are pulling the strings everywhere, even controlling what is taught in schools and even the media.

So what is currently being done by our government and governments the world over to limit their power, or even better, reduce it?

For one thing, I believe corporate greed will be the biggest hurdle to jump for our culture to jump in order to embrace alternative fuel sources. I already see "experts" on the news explaining how the record rise in gas costs is a temporary issue, a mere inconvenience that will be remedied by next winter.

"Don't worry folks, go on and keep on consuming, there is plenty more in reserve. Pay no attention to these blatant warning signs and this stack of scientific evidence that points to PEAK OIL arriving soon. If we could, we'd do you the favor of burning it and getting it out of your mind forever. Actually if we could just wrest control of the internet from you like we're hoping to, we'll work on it right away. Just sign here and remember, it's for your peace of mind!"

Makes me sick to my stomach that anyone can still believe it. Had a nightmare last night, where the entire economy had collapsed, we were living in a post apocalyptic nation of riots and panic, and people were still buying the bullshit they were trying to feed.

The only things I see being done are further deregulation and protections for corporate interests. The public is consistently fed sound bites to support actions that remove their private rights in the interest of protecting corporate profit margins.

When our president's pep talk to the American public consists of telling us to continue buying rather something more constructive what can you expect?

Boss that's a hen not a rooster. And that commendable young man may be so busy working that he can't afford to find the time nor afford a 200.00 haircut like our administration can.
