I don't have any problem giving out my name.

If someone is as devoted to me to actually go on and stalk me, then shit... I applaud them!

Honestly, you give out your name to random strangers every single day... what difference does the internet make? Especially these forums which are a rather pacifist community.

I give out my first name...its even written in under the "Gender" field so its visible in every post I make. But most people on here refer to me as Lace, which is fine. :D

I have a made up real name that I use, "Eric", so that people will think that they know my real name and feel special.

Nobody on here knows my actual real name though.

Pft, if someone here wants to molest me all they have to do is ask. [IMG]

Yes, I'll give out all my information on here. I'm 170 pound kickboxer with a knife. I have guns, will travel.

I'm a nice guy and all, i just don't think I'd be anyones kidnapping target. Moreover I don't think anyone would cough up any cash.

you mean you actualy want to know my mundane name? i thought we were discussing the concept of names and how people perfer to be known/introduced by, introduce each other by, et c.

when i go to furcons or other conventions my nametag always says themnax too. just like on here. my mka (mundanely known as) is so effingly mundane, that's one of the reasons i hate to use it. you just want the first? ok it's john. see what i mean. somebody pokes their head in a room and asks for john and half the heads in the room turn arround! yuch. idiotic precident naming people after other people. the guy i was named after stepped on a land mine in north africa fighting rommel in wwII. he was also homophobic. add that to the mundaneness and i should want to go by that?

my patrinymic came from a mercinary from hess, who was the number one assistant to the general who slaughtered an awfull lot of native americans (and french trappers/colonists) before there was a u.s., when they were hired by the british to do so. not something i'm too thrilled about either.

as for middle name, i don't have one, i was never given one. there isn't any on my birth cirtificate. my parrents figgured two names was enough. didn't even give me a middle innitial.

so if you want to know my mundane name, ok, no big secret, but i REALLY prefer to go by themnax. just themnax. everywhere. including 'real' life.

and if you really feel you have to throw in an honorific, like if you're in the company of someone who insists upon it, i kind of like the way the japanese do it. call me themnax san. at least i think that's right. i don't particularly like the american convention i've heard all my life of mister. i mean if you must you must. and there are always contexts and circumstances where we can't avoid that sort of thing. i just don't see, feel or eperinece as natural, any sort of formalized or frozen hierarchies. all of us have something on each other in some contexts that others have on us in others. if everyone is calling each other mr or mz, everyone, well i guess that's ok where it has to be. but otherwise, just themnax will do.

sensei themnax would flatter my ego but i know their is absolutely no way in which i would deserve it.

I only use my first name in everything now and never use my last name. I have friends that don't even know my last name. Who cares?

I usually don't introduce myself on the net by my first name, although I will if the subject comes up, but certainly not my last name. There are a few people here (three actually!) that know my last name, address, and phone number, but not many.

You do realize that, without some kind of anonymous-type software, anyone can find out all of that info?

    www.anonymizer.com

one of many that can help you stay in the dark, otherwise, anyone who's tech savy or who happens to have the right software can find out who you are with little difficulty.

shit, you dont even have to be tech savy, anyone with access to skiptracing tools(some require a monthly fee, others are free to the public and only give out certain info, and others are avaible to those who use it for business and allow access to WAY to much info) can find out a lot about you just from you first name age and state you reside in, the rest can be pieced together(like what you do for a living or what college you attend), the more info they gather the more info they find (school info and work info can lead to place of residence and even your car VIN, family and known associates such as anyone you shared a lease with).

not to mention new cell phone features allow just about anyone to track your location in realtime(GPS works both ways).

It's how stalkers, government, bill collectors, PIs and the like track people.

    so easy it's scary.

Ya, I dont mind giving out my name on here or anywhere else on the internet. Probably because the name I use everyday of my life is just a nickname not my legal name. Been using Shellie since I was a kid.

I don't use my real first name anymore except for when I have to sign legal stuff. My boss uses my real first name only if I do something wrong, but nobody else at work knows my name.
I don't even use my real name for the post office or the phone company.

Yeah, I always introduce myself as my first name---Brie. Well, that's my nickname, but no one calls me by my full first name anyway.
