That's such an ignorant statement. Just because you will be dead, it shouldn't affect you? What about your children’s lives and your grandchildren’s lives? But you will be dead, so it doesn't really matter right? I think that it is undeniable. If you say global warming is just nature, a natural warm period, look at the charts, it has never even been close to what we are at now. I can see it day to day in my life, in the weather. I live in Canada, land of the snow, and I wonder if my grandchildren will say, what's snow? We don't have winters anywhere near what we used too. I remember when I was little, winters meant having to shovel yourself out of the house, this past winter hardly anything. Last summer we had record high temperatures, and now this time around, it's only May and we've had three smog advisories. Yeah I agree, people need to open their eyes and see what's going on, and what we are undeniably contributing too. On a side note, nice job jonny2mad on your lifestyle. That's what we should all be doing. I wont lie, I don't live anywhere close to that lifestyle but it makes me hopeful that someday I can. Good on you.
great I will sell deck chairs and ice cream I will make a fortune, oh how I love suncream companies I made a fortune out of them last year on the markets!
We have to make some changes, however anyone who cares about the environment, or any good cause has to be well known already to make other people care....
I do believe in recycling and cutting down emissions dont get me wrong. I just feel that there is not enough evidence to support global warming . What we can be sure of is, the world climate system is changing but I feel more evidence points to natural culprits like the oceans that produce carbon emissions. Most of our planet is water. There was a time when winter's were very harsh. Harsh enough to freeze the Thames. Apparently they skated, had fetes and other ye olde shannanigans I am aware of on the ice. However one day before the industrial revolution even existed, the winter's became less harsh and the Thames no longer froze. I am open minded but feel that one should not get into a hype of hysteria. The world will be here tomorrow. The way I see it, We are simply bacteria with legs on Earth's surface. Oneday she, as beautiful as a gem in space will have enough of the human race.
I am in Tot Road right now and with the amount of traffic, I doubt this would change in ten years time. I think that changing people's attitudes to the petrol guzzler will be a hard task to undertake globally but... Not impossible
Care to point me in the direction of this evidence which hundreds of the world's experts in the field having spent years researching the subject seem to have missed?
Good good. There's some interesting research into the percentage concentrations of different carbon isotypes in the atmosphere which demonstrates the source of the excess atmospheric CO2 which you might like to read while you're at it
Might go online to scientific pages then I will come back with a wrath of evidence to settle this debate about the Earth being totally obliterated due to humans.
How do we know that recent CO2 increases are due to human activities? http://www.realclimate.org/index.php?p=87 How Much of Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Accumulation Is Anthropogenic? http://www.strom.clemson.edu/becker/prtm320/commons/carbon3.html The oceans are a net carbon sink http://www.ghgonline.org/co2sinkocean.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_sequestration#Oceans
Whilst individual actions to curb carbon footprints should be encouraged, we cannot rely on individuals to change their habits. The state must act to compel or coerce people into changing their habits. And I'm not simply talking about pricing gas guzzlers off the road, I'm talking about making them illegal. Rarely will one person choose to shun the benefits of modern life if their contemporaries will not. Only when society acts uniformly to cut down on emissions will individuals do this, and only through state intervention can this be done. As for a UK green living forum, yes this is possible, maybe start a thread and canvass the level of support for it....
Forget the climate for a minute (not that I can while living along the coast), the emissions from cars are contributing to lung cancer, asthma in children, adults, etc. Give people in urban areas a chance to breath fresh air once in a while. We take oxygen for granted so often, but not everyone can.
Whys ppl sayin the worlds gonna turn shit in 8 or 15 years and some ppl say it isnt, if it was i wwould drop out of college, work and travel before its too late, should i?
No because we're not going to be dead in 8 years. Likely we'd observe no actual difference. The point is that 8 years may be the window of opportunity we have to make a difference. I've heard various figures on this and I'm not entirely convinced by the 8 years principle. But it is a fact that global warming is happening and it's a fact that human activity is contributing to it. The sooner we do something about it the better....
2002 was our best chance of turning back, every second we pass that it gets exponentially harder...according to an expert on climate change who's name i can't remember!
ironically with all the talk of how much English people consume/use and destroy the environment ... when I first came here from western New York the one thing I was taken aback by was how clean and fresh the air was. it shocked me.
well the thing is it may be possible to stop it turning shit but people would have to change the way they live radically . Now when everyone else is traveling by flying for example and driving cars its hard to see that it makes that much difference what you do, but thats what everyone else thinks , so nobody stops and well the world turns to shit as a result. There is a guy in london who still has a washing machine and computer and lives in a house and has a carbon footprint 60 times smaller than the average western footprint . if people started doing what hes done the world wouldnt turn to shit and we wouldnt have a problem with global warming . we have this problem because we use to many resources and to much energy what you can do is look at every product you buy and consider the energy it takes to get them to you , this includes things like food . grow as much of your own food or buy food locally , buy secondhand reuse and recycle if your travelling dont just look at the money price but the price to the enviroment (so dont fly ) . if you feel like getting a job work for a green firm its up to you whether you drop out or no but if you do try to fight so then if it happens at least you will know you tried . get a job with green peace thats travel and a job watch this video doesnt it look a fun way to go if the worlds fucked https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JniWdP0MO7s
you too could ride in one of those little boats taking on whalers or people dumping at sea or doing nuclear tests , you may have to get some skills but tempting isnt it and apart from that you could help them in other ways or other enviromental groups http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/about/job-vacancies saving the cod http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/blog/oceans/north-sea/stopping-cod-trawlers-fishing-the-hard-way-20070512
