For some time I have been considering taking up reading at Markets and people's homes to support myself. I am at uni at the moment and finding it really hard to find a part time job and have therefore been looking at alternate ways of making myself a little cash. I know that there are those that frown upon taking peoples money for doing a reading, but I am getting a bit desperate here! Anyway, my biggest hesitation in taking this step is that I don't know if I have the confidence in my ability, or even the ability to do it.....and I am not sure how to overcome that. Friends and family that I read for tell me that I am good at it and are always banging down my door looking for a reading. Is it enough to trust that? Any advice would be appreciated! Sorry for my rambling!
i can see why you may be hesitant to undertake readings for a living if you are not entirely confident with yourself and your abilities, but you must remember that your body/mind/spirit is but a vessel, a conduit and channel for information that comes from a higher source - trust in the source, and you will become more confident with your vision.... it's small steps - the more you do it, the more you are validated, the more confident you are.....if you are feeling the calling, then it is likely something you should pursue for a time
Jemima, why don't you try it and see how it goes? Print up a few business cards, get a booth in a holistic fair or flea market or whatever. Leave your cards at new age shops, laundromats, etc. I know somebody who takes people's money big-time for doing readings. Her name is Sonia Choquette--she lives in Chicago, has written several books, and charges around $800 for a one-hour reading (last time I checked--the price keeps rising)--and still has a waiting list. I don't understand why people would frown on taking money for readings--if you perform a service for someone, they should do something in return. Do they expect you to starve to death while performing services for others? Not to overlook people's needs, of course--Sonia has made an effort to make herself available in creative ways and to form a network of other psychics she can recommend. Seems to me the universe has set you on this path...all you need to do is start walking.
hey jemima I would reccommend reading Doreen Virtue's book 'The Lightworkers Way', she outlines alot of obstacles, ethical or otherwise, that pyschics and other people drawn to the light often come across, such as trusting your ability, how much to charge, etc. And plus its also just great reading! I wouldn't feel guilty about charging for a reading... in fact, i think patrons would prefer to pay you, people like to be able to give something in return for such a service. I really like the website www.erinpavlina.com, she is a psychic who has recently started to use her abilities as a career path. She might be of inspiration to u! Her site is also very interesting and informative. I hope this helps! btw, whereabouts in Aus are you?
oooo im in queensland too! although much further away, i live in kuranda in the far north. I ventured down to the sunshine coast at new years for woodford folk festival. it was fantastic! ill definitely be there again this year.
Oh cool...I have never been to Woodford myself - well I have been to the town, but no the festival...thinking I might try and go this year!
yeah so they tell me! I had an opportunity to work there last year, but had prior commitments that I couldn't get out of...dammit! Am planning on going this year though!, hopefully as a performer though.
So you're the real deal eh? Could you answer me this? Is it even possible to read someone over the phone/internet? Or do you need to see them in person? Also, whats the best way of telling that they're legit?
If it's what you want to do, do it! If it fails or if it succeeds, you'll have a good experience to share. Good luck, beautiful-eyed lady!
What do you mean by 'the real deal'?? And yeah you can read for somene over the phone or internet. I personally don't think that the reading will be as 'strong' because the cards have no connection to your energy....but if can be done. How do you tell if someone is legit? Hmm...trust your instincts I guess? If if feels wrong, then chances are it is. I don't really know how to answer that question to be honest.....rely on other people's recommendations if you are trying to find someone to read for you.
