The law is archaic. Free speech shouldn't apply to everything. I mean, there's free speech, and then there's just being offensive. To me. I believe in free speech, but some things people claim as free speech are just like, sick or wrong, and they're not saying them for free speech at all, they're saying them for other reasons, like for attention or to communicate gross sick ideas. The law needs to be changed. How can we have a law that permits free speech, when it also allows things to be said that aren't free speech? It's sick to think that people are allowed to say things that aren't free speech, and they should be locked up til they learn the meaning of free speech. YEAH.
I definitely see your point, but the problem with limiting free speech is that once you do that, it is no longer free.
Agreed, these people must stop offending me right now!!! I don't know why people don't understand that free speech is about saying things that we can all agree about. When did it get all yucky and disagreeable? Shouldn't what the mainstream deems acceptable be the moral standard against which everything is judged? I dream of one big happy homogenized society where we can all agree to be lead around together like 6 billion beautiful sheep. Content to just be (as long as we aren't being offensive!!!). It's just too bad a few people have to yell about their own silly opinions and prevent us from herding correctly. Think about how pleasant and agreeable we'd look, all white and shiny and well dressed. We could all do our job and fit neatly into place, ensuring we can live EXACTLY like this for thousands and thousands of years to come! All these disagreeable people though, they are just too offensive! I don't like how they don't fit in so well. They are strange and gross me out with this "individuality" they're always yelling about. :ack:
OK, maybe illegalising it is a bit excessive (but hey, why not, it IS the Protest forum, after all), but seriouslt, what the fuck? I mean, yeah, free speech is one thing, but then there's some dude talking shit about abortions and I'm like "Dude, WTF?!" Talking shit about abortions is NOT freedom of speech, it's just some wah-wah wannabe sissy who wants attention. I mean, freedom of speech is one thing, but talking shit about abortions or crazy shit about how bombing women is great... how is that about freedom of speech?! Freedom of speech is about protest and freedom of expression and stuff like that, but when someone starts spouting a load of Republican/Neo-Con crap, I say NO, that's not freedom of speech anymore, that's just mocking the institution of freedom of speech, because the stuff they're saying just isn't free speech, it's just sick and gross.
Freedom - the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint - exemption from external control, interference, regulation, etc. - the power to determine action without restraint. - exemption from the presence of anything specified - the absence of or release from ties, obligations, etc. - the right to frequent, enjoy, or use at will - the power to exercise choice and make decisions without constraint from within or without; autonomy; self-determination Taken from Dictionary.com xD Lol... Freedom is unhindered action.
Fuck that. Honestly, fuck that. Every single thing that comes out of my mouth will probably offend at least one person. We cannot help but offend people. People need to toughen up, and get over their insecurities. Getting offended is silly and weak. I will never give up my rights to say whatever the fuck I want just so that some wanker doesn't get his poor feelings hurt.
Beautiful. SelfControl, I happen to like abortion jokes - and your attempt to censor them offends me greatly.
Abortion jokes are lame. I don't joke about them. I instead dig through abortion clinic dumpsters and eat the dead babies. Now that's a way to treat abortion with respect!
Lol... In attempts to stop offense you have offended xD Note: Rubin, im sure that youd enjoy my old Middle Schools chicken wings Made from breaded infant, you know.
So how do you go about limiting free speech? What are the punishments for saying "bad things"? Who decides what's right speech? "Without an unfettered press, without liberty of speech, all of the outward forms and structures of free institutions are a sham, a pretense -- the sheerest mockery. If the press is not free; if speech is not independent and untrammeled; if the mind is shackled or made impotent through fear, it makes no difference under what form of government you live, you are a subject and not a citizen." -William E. Borah
Under the Constitution, Americans have the right to express themselves, even to hold views that others consider to be sick or repugnant. I have a suggestion to your dilemna. Move to China.
Should free speech be limited? NO! The freedom of speech is the basis of all true liberty for only free and open communication can peacefully convince others thus change the world. Revolutions are acts of desperation needed only when the system needs to be changed not the particulars. In day to day living all people must be able to speak freely without fear from state or social repercussions. I include those things those things most find disgusting or just unsettling. I believe that the Holocaust has been exaggerated by the Western powers to make the Nazi regime look more monstruous. That said, I find no basis in anti-Semitism and feel that the Holocaust would be horrible even if one person was killed. I would defend, though not to the threat of bodily harm, the right of fascists and racists to speak freely.
How can you find them funny, you sick bastard? Saying something like an abortion is bad enough, but finding them funny should be totally illegal. They should punish you for your emotional response to them, if you don't find them disgusting, because the only way that's free speech is to be appauled by them and report them to the law people!
No. They should punish me for finding 9/11 jokes funny. They should probably just shun me for the abortion ones.
