As you know I live in Lewisham. This is a vibrant little hell hole set firmly in a small valley. At its base is the river's Ravensbourne and the dreaded Quaggy river. There is an Urban Renaissance happening. Could not have come at a better time. Catford is still Crapford. When you leave the catford shopping centre you see the backside of a black and white cat. No wonder nobody comes back. But anyway, my concern is the traffic. at around 4-7pm, the traffic is so bad that the jam starts in Old kent road near Toys r us, and feeds right through to Lee green. Also cars coming from Greenwich via Tesco, traffic starts from Charlton, or Deptford. When the renaissance is finished in 2010, the town will have a lower H format for cars. Therefore it may create a huge traffic island. Also when you rechannel cars, they often end up making rat runs in the quiet streets. I wonder what Steve Bullock has to say about traffic calming measures. I am happy with Cornmill gardens, DLR service and Mainline services to kent including places like Flaversham, Margate and Maidstone West. These places are within easy reach of Lewisham train station. I also like the vibrance which is on a similar level to places like Reading, Berks.
I'll second you on the traffic problems, I think that's true in any built up area across the whole country... we need to start taxing the bastards off the road...
Yep, traffic problems. Otherwise, here in Cheltenham, there isnt all that much wrong. The fountain near my houe needs a good clean, and theres some little twit going around spraying his annoying little meaningless tag everywhere. Except for those things, alls good, except its in Britain. Therefore public transport (the only form of transport i will use, except for bikes and my feet) is terrible/non-existent and there are a lot of miserable people and people throwing up in the street
There is a HUGE ''Renaissance'' in Leicester - also. The traffic at the moment is not so bad BUT we have a new ''super casino'' - redevelopment of the town shopping ''mall'' and overall city centre PLUS a fuck off new performing arts centre - opening soon. masterplan gloom performing arts centre This ofcourse is a huge benefit to the local and wider community - under TEN glorious years of a Labour goverment - it almost brings a tear to my eye - the amount of investment that has been given to the whole of the country BUT it it is also a traffic nighmare awaiting to happen. I'm sure now that Labour have control of this [once Lib Dem controled] it will all go swimmingly.
Here in Lewisham, there are two problems with traffic. lets dance: a) A set of traffic lights opposite Natwest holds a lot of traffic. I heard this from a regular cab driver. b) Lewisham sits bang on or near the A2 and A20. The surrounding area isn't big enough for a park and ride scheme.
The field across the road is planting this year, it was fallow last. They're building half a dozen affordable homes at Shop. Traffic no problem, still forget to lock the car.
wow I want to live where you live! don't have to lock your car? i had two that were locked (one with a crook lock on it as well) and both were stolen. :stunned: the only complaint (other than the two car being stolen thing) i have about the area i live in is everything is dirty. there's rubbish all over the streets, shopping trolleys left miles from their home, and just general neglect of common areas. not a day goes by that i don't see someone chucking rubbish out of their car as they drive along. it's freakin' horrible. i know the neighbors in my immediate area take care of their own gardens and tidy up those, etc. but if there is anything left even in the immediate parking lot that is rubbish it seems like everyone sees it and just leaves it cos it's someone else's problem. that sentiment seems to carry over into all the surrounding area and down in the main town center as well. so much filth, and it really isn't necessary. my mother-in-law lives in a little community that seems to have young families and oap's living there (a few in between but not many) and even their little park/duck pond has people throwing trolleys into it and just leaving rubbish about everywhere. it's so bad that they have even instituted a fine of £75 to anyone that puts their bin rubbish out a day early (unless there is good reason - like away on holiday). but that isn't even the big problem it's all the people that just don't give a crap and feel they have the right to chuck their burger wrappers wherever they like. makes me sick really.
Well i live in beautiful beautiful falmouth, and like many of you I hate the traffic and all the problems caused by it...pollution, visual, sound My other concerns are litter, especially as tourist season is almost upon us a funny thought for those of you who live in built-up areas tho; for me one of the saddest things of being in a city is not being able to see the stars; light pollution is such a weird human invention
I live in a town called Washington (where the tories have just taken two council seats for the first time ever). And I reckon it's alright for the most part. It's quite built up and a bit run down but there's still lots of pleasant little spots dotted around. We certainly need better recycling schemes here though. I live in a housing complex and there's none on offer. So we have to cart our stuff into the town centre where we can only recycle tins and glass. Litter's canny bad as well.
