Hello I am a meditation newbie and wondered if anyone could shed any light on my 2 questions. Q1: After I was meditating (i'm very early into doing it so i couldnt call it full blown meditation yet) I found afterwards I got a warm feeling around the back of my neck. Is this common? I have heard of this happening before. Does anyone have any ideas what it might be? Q2: Why is it always important to sit up straight whilst meditating? every expert on meditation always insists on sitting up straight (in sitting meditation) why is that? why cant one lean against a wall? Thx people.
1. maybe neck it during sitting? could be anything really. warm is fine, no? 2. sit comfortably erect, you can lean against pillows or a wall, seat with back, it's okay.
1. Relax everything, and keep searching for things that aren't relaxed. When you find them, (and you will), relax them. You may find that you can't relax them unless you adjust your posture so that you are better aligned, and that place doesn't need to work anymore. This commonly happens with muscles near your spine. You may also notice that you are twisted a little and need to straighten out. Little muscles in your face often keep getting tense, too. 2.Sit on level ground. Sit on a cushion if the ground is uncomfortable. You don't have to twist your limbs into the lotus position or adopt any unusual postures. The important thing is to keep your back straight, as this will help with breathing later on.
