Yeah, some people do that. But isn't just 'metal' more useful for that? Anyway, it is used for both. All metal, but also the original heavy metal style.

Thrash, by far, whatever early Metallica is considered (which I believe is thrash).

Fuck the slow stuff, and fuck death metal, but that's just me of course :)

Though metal has alot fo genre's, aevrything basically comes out of Heavy Metal. And heavy metal is also kind of my favourite style, followed by Trash, Power and Industrial.

i don`t know what that means.. but i need: variety, genuine instruments, lots going on, intense vocals.. generally anguished and melancholic

You don't know what what means?
Oh, and are you saying you have no favourite genre? I think intense vocals are mostly based in heavy/power metal no?

and what do you mean by genuine instruments?

i don`t know what the definitions of the metal genres are.
i don`t know if i have a favourite genre but if it consists of all that i mentioned before then yes. it has to have all those things.
    it is heavy..
genuine instruments, as in not noises made by a keyboard sort of thing.

I don't see why a keyabord can't be a genuine instrument. Because it's electric, cause so are the guitars that are used you know ...
If you name some of you favourite bands, maybe we can derive from that you favorite genre.

ok fine, i don`t like keyboad stuff, that`s about it really. i like other instruments in the context i prefer etc
i made a thread saying about the bands i like "the bands i listen to are.."

    I think you mean "Thrash"

Seems like limited variety to me. Intense anguished vocals.

See Death, Black, Thrash, ect... genres for other "intense" vocals.

I read that post. CoB over-use keyboards in pretty much every song, as do Dimmu Borgir. Contradictions from within.

    LoL's all around.

i only listen to albums that don`t. and i don`t like it, obviously the way some is done i can tolerate. as for variety - in instruments and the styles. what`s not to understand about that.

Just out of curiosity, which albums do you believe not to have Keyboards? ALL of them do.

Depending on what your definition of genuine is, your variety might be little more than a piano, lute and hand drum. Of course, the variety may also be endless if you realize that any instrument may be genuine. Genuine was just a strange word to use when describing an instrument.

A hatred for keyboard, and a love for bodom also prompts me to chuckle heartily.

i don`t just mean variety in instruments, i also mean in styles too. guitars, big orchestral drum thing or some sort, violin sounding, piano, sitar..
i hate most of bodom and dimmu borgir, but what i do like - i really like. i listen to (and obviously tolerate) follow the reaper, couple of songs off an album with `angel`s don`t kill` or something, stormblast and don`t remember what the other dimmu borgir album is. getting them soon.
    now go patronize someone else
just because i don`t know/can`t describe the exact instuments for sure that i like hearing (in certain contexts).. ie. not a musician, doesn`t mean i can`t appreciate it in a deep way.

I don't see how you feel I'm condescending, I just thought it was funny that you bashed the use of keyboards, and listed bands that are regarded as "keyboard" bands as your favorites... Its like saying you hate neo-classical, but love yngwie malmsteen. I really don't care, I've probably said stupid things before too.

sorry, I always make that mistake
I love Thrash, but I don't think you can compare the vocals of say Megadeth to something like Maiden, can you?

As I remember, the topic was "Intense vocals". Dave's vocals are much more raw than Bruce's, or Pauls, or Blaze's, especially in the earlier days, I'd say that a level of "raw" certainly makes vocals more intense.

Although, if you're looking for a thrash vocalist who can actually "sing" per say, take a look at Metal Church, David Wayne can most definitely match up to Brucie'.

as i said, i only like follow the reaper. as for dimmu borgir, haven`t listened to stormblast in ages, but really liked it. the other album i don`t know the name of, i haven`t listened to yet.. just one song. so you`d say (using my description) that i really like thrash, or death? maybe if you hugged me i`d forgive you :p

:p Its all good, I trust that you know what you like and don't need me to question your tastes.I'd try out that hug, but we both know it couldn't end there, and this forum is no place for such drama. Thrash / death are definitely two of the "better" genres, especially for someone (like myself) who doesn't like keyboards in their metal. I'd also suggest older black metal. (See Mayhem's Deathcrush album, I can't push this album enough.)
