Ok, I am just wondering how my friends here in the Stoners Lounge (all of you!) feel about death. I guess I should lay out my questions in a numerical format 1. Do you believe in a spiritual afterlife? As in heaven, or something of the sort? 2. Have you ever watched somebody die, either naturally, accidentally, or purposely (ie. murder, suicide) ? 2.a If you have seen a person pass on, did you notice the look in their eyes when the light faded and the energy left? 3. And last but not least : 3.a Are you mentally prepared to accept how you've lived your life so far and die at any moments notice without having regret? 3.b and, most importantly in my opinion, are you afraid of dying? ----------------- Alright Im sorry to be so weird, this is a pretty strange question and not one that some people care to acknowledge, so Im sorry if I have put off anyone's mood for the day, especially if you have recently lost a loved one and are having a difficult time moving forward. The reason I am asking is becuase I had the strangest dream last night that some doctors said that they had to kill my son for some reason, something about him growing up to be a murderer or some other bizarre shit, and when I woke up my entire perspective on life, death, samsara, whatever, was shaken to the core and I was forced to entirely rethink my position on this matter. In a few moments here I should be able to answer my own questions to share with all of you. Much peace and love and respect to all of you who read this, I hope it finds you in good health and have a great day my friends
Ok here's my answer everyone 1. I do believe in an afterlife, that we acheive liberation of samsara after many births and deaths (reincarnation) and eventually we join Krishna, Vishnu, God, whatever you want to call it. 2. I've seen several murders in the city, but I have never been close enough to see peoples eyes when they pass on. I have always wondered what that looks like though. Not that I WANT to find out, just curious thats all  3. I believe that I am ready to go, I have no fear thats for sure, but what is a little hard to accept is shedding the desire to do more with my life before that time comes, will I be reborn? Or is this my last life cycle before blending into the infinite? Hmmmmm..... The path of Krishna Conciousness is a bit overwhelming at times. Ok looking forward to everyones replies! I hope some of you have thought long and hard on this subject and wish to express their opinion and perspective
1. Do you believe in a spiritual afterlife? As in heaven, or something of the sort? No.. i believe that life is one continual cycle.. birth.. death..rebirth and so on 2. Have you ever watched somebody die, either naturally, accidentally, or purposely (ie. murder, suicide) ? Not completely.. I've seen a person dying but was not there to see them die 2.a If you have seen a person pass on, did you notice the look in their eyes when the light faded and the energy left? 3. And last but not least : 3.a Are you mentally prepared to accept how you've lived your life so far and die at any moments notice without having regret? Yes.. if i was to die tomorrow.. so be it.. i have done enough in my life to be remembered by those who knew me 3.b and, most importantly in my opinion, are you afraid of dying? No.. its part of the cycle of life.. it happens.. why should i be afraid of something thats going to happen sooner or later
I don't believe in a soul, i think it's just a product of primitive misunderstanding (kindof how thor makes lightening), so i don't believe in an afterlife. i'm afraid of dying, but not death. probably the same way i'm afraid of rickets, it just seems unpleasant. never seen anyone die tho, i tend to avoid the sickly and elderly.
Beautiful post man! (Joker! Yours was good to Eugene ) But, let me ask you, if you believe in the cycle of birth after death, do you believe in a karmic reincarnation, or do you believe in simple energy expulsion joining the material entity called reality that we live in? Manifesting in whatever it does? Or do you have a personal idea on what happens to life energy? I must admit, Im always more interested in the thoughts of those who believe that life continues in either another incarnation, or going back to "nature" as people claim, without a spiritual plane parralel to us to attain. I just find it fascinating that people belive in reincarnation without physical liberation as some point, soul, whatever, since when I was agnostic before I found the Bhagavad Gita at 17 years old, I didnt believe in anything other than going back to the groun
Although Eugene, what if I was to say that the "soul" is, in actuality, the higher Self that is not confined to the physical reality of the body? More or less, the individual ray of oneness that is at the same time part of and seperatley tapping into the Universal web of Conciousness? Just a thought
you die, its over.. life isnt some special magical thing we have thought it to be "there is no meaning to life other than what we give it. everything is inheriently without value, and only humans, as value-positing creatures, give it meaning."
By your own definition, you are basically stating that reality is subjective and up to the individual person to decide what is and what isnt, so therefor, everyone is right. I agree lol Very interesting mix of opinions here !
"there is no meaning to life, other than what we give it." Whose "we", you alone? lol Sorry, just trying to understand that comment.
WE, humans, OUR species and as humans we think we can figure every thing out. mabey im wrong but we defently will never know if there is a next step in existing. but in my mind im 100% shure on this
Oh man, please dont take my comment the wrong way, all I am saying is that WE as human beings all have our own opinions, and the way I look at it is that every single person in right, to themselves. That is what I was agreeing with you about. Reality is subjective and left to the perceiver to understand, Im sure you will agree with this as well?
if you belive hard enough then yes its true to you i look at this world and see religion in every human culture, so how is that the popular ones are correct? sorrybut religion is a crutch for those who fear death and find away to ease it with hope of something next. they cant understand that your conscious is not living so how can it die. Our brains can proccess and understand alot of things so we descoved we are living but that doesnt mean we will continue
1. Do you believe in a spiritual afterlife? As in heaven, or something of the sort? I'm not sure. I believe that this life is not the last, whether heavens next or another life here or on another planet, I have no idea. I've always been far more interested in before birth than after death, though. Maybe the past and the future of our souls are the same place...hmm. 2. Have you ever watched somebody die, either naturally, accidentally, or purposely (ie. murder, suicide) ? Yeah, I was at my grandfathers bedside for a month straight up until his death. 2.a If you have seen a person pass on, did you notice the look in their eyes when the light faded and the energy left? He was nearly comatose by the time he finally passed and his eyes were closed. I was too distraught to notice if anything changed. He simply stopped breathing. 3. And last but not least : 3.a Are you mentally prepared to accept how you've lived your life so far and die at any moments notice without having regret? I'm not ready to die yet but if it happens tomorrow, I wouldn't have any regrets. 3.b and, most importantly in my opinion, are you afraid of dying? Terrified. Not about what will happen to me but what will happen to the people I leave behind. I don't want my loved ones to feel the pain of mourning.
Ah my friend DepTh, could you honestly say that is true of ALL religion? Let me show you what I mean. When I was there while my sons mother was giving birth, I was not afraid. When I spent time in jail, falsely accused of reckless homicide, I was not afraid. When I became homeless at 15, I was not afraid. When I have seen people shot in the street, I was never afraid. But when I lost my ego in surrerndering all that I thought I was to devotion of God, or, in a sense, becoming One with all, learning to love and to accept, when I was SHOWN the wonder that is timeless, infinite, trancendental connection, I came to shaking and crying, alone in my room. I had never been so afraid of anything in my life. In a way, like paranoia from smoking weed x a billion. Even the worst trips on LSD and mushrooms, of which I've ventured into the 100's of times, dont even compare to the True meanging of the phrase Ego Death. I promise you my friend, if anything, Krishna Conciousness is the polar opposite to a crutch in order to accept life and death.
Stella, your open mindedness shows the inner beauty and courage you have in embracing and accepting life and the people in it for all of our differenaces. What a wonderful post! Thank you so much for sharing
In actuality, you are wrong. I was a person who was afraid of the infinite, comfortable in my previous belief that I will die and thats it. Im going to have to say that unless you experience ego loss yourself and see the beauty of merging with Divine Love, you can not understand that which you claim to not exist. If you are telling ME that I am afriad of death and being alone, as if you can read my mind, then I will simply have to say that you just may be the one who is afraid. Possibly, your sig quote could be of some guidance in your way of approaching this topic?
Ok, I appreciate your contribution of opinion, but I only hope this thread continues in the direction of people peacefully posting their thoughts and beliefs without having them attacked. If we have to argue, so be it, I dont actually mind, but it would be nice to just read beliefs for a change lol.
