I gather raw fibers...clean...comb and card...spin off of turkish...viking ...navaho...bottom and top whorl spindles. I also have two spinning wheels...a castle wheel and a saxony. I love to spin all natural fibers...wool...cotton...silk...hemp...flax...you name it I can spin it and probably have! I dye all my fibers naturally with gathered goods either from my own gardens or the nearby woods.....very few things ever have to be bought! I have over 30 types of looms...from a huge viking warp weighted loom....table looms...inkle/tablet weaving looms...hippy love & money looms...so on and so forth...lol OK...so this is what I want to know...who here likes to do this? I can't be the only one! I also knit, crochet, do macrame, sew, embroider, quilt, needlepoint, tye dye, etc....and so .......so would love to chat with like minded! Are you out there? Hey don't be shy! We are all family! Looking forward to talking with you all! Hugs! Spun Weaver
I spin - although I'm not nearly as adapted to it as you are I've a drop spindle that I use, and have only spun maybe a dozen or so skeins of fibre. It's a very cool hobby althuogh tedious at times, but I do enjoy it. And I love knitting up a good warm scarf from the wool that I've spun
HEY! Another spinner...very kewl! Welcome onboard! YES...knitting rocks! Where did you learn? How did you get interested in the fiber arts? Me? It was my family! Hugs Spun Weaver
I love doing all that, except I've never spun (I've wanted to). I have only one question for you: HOW DO YOU HAVE ROOM FOR ALL OF THOSE WHEELS?
lol...with a family my size...me & hubby and our six children...we have a good size home...although I could make room no matter where we were! We have ways! Sides...it makes me happy and thats what counts! Hope you learn to spin......you would love it! Hugs Spun Weaver
I boarder on being self-taught... Like most others, I learned how to knit before I was 10 by my grandmother, but could never keep the stitches loose enough on my needles and became frustrated with it rather quickly. I abandoned it, and didn't get back into it until I was around 23 and got a job at a craft store, where I jumped in the deep end of things and taught myself how to crochet and retaught myself how to knit within the first month of being there, it was much fun
i crochet and knit (although knitting takes up alot of my patience) I would love to learn to spin, my dad lives on a farm and im always gathering the loose wool from the shop in the barbed wire in hope that someday I will start spinning
I don't know how to knit, but I had a job as a reenactor once where we would card, spin and dye wool. I like to dye best, though.
I would be more than happy to teach if you lived near me....I have taught many around me...including my three daughters! You would learn to calm with this...I use spinning for a method of meditation....I always feel better after spinning or weaving! Loved your site! Hugs; Spun Weaver
Very kewl...we belong to two historical groups.....the SCA and our local 1812 group......down at Fort Malden. Dyeing is a riot...we always gather ....and have fun experimenting with natural dyes...in my huge iron cauldron out back! Thanks for sharing! Hugs!
thanks for your kind words on my site. was wondering if you sell any of your yarn. it sounds so beautiful
Actually I make stuff with it to sell......I have also traded with friends for other goods....I have a great theory...trade is good....lol....and I tend to share the wealth. But if offered I am sure I would! Have a great night! Spun Weaver
have you got any pics of your yarn? id like to trade/buy. Yours sounds wonderfully natural I love that
Just starting spinning here! I L-O-V-E it! Between buying handspun yarn and now buying rovings to spin, I have so much yarn that I should control myself and stop buying anything more til I make something out of it! I am using a drop spindle. it really is easy and my dd is learning to do it too. I accidently bought some fiber that had not been carded (was not paying enough attention to much but the pretty colors ). I did not want to buy 60.00 hand carders, so I did a little research and found some info on getting large dog slickers and "carding" with them. It's tedious but relaxing and rewarding. Who knows, I may go down that path......
