at our school we always have a blood drive. you always had to be 17 and at least 110 pounds. well now im 17 and am a volenteer this year. i have two issues that come with this. i want to give blood but the first time i got my blood drawn, i fainted and had a convusion but the second i didnt and was fine. in order to give blood, they need to take a pint of it and ive never had that much taken out before. i keep on wondering if thats too much for me to give and still be funstional for a bit. also they say if you have taken any illegal drugs you cant give blood. is that part really important or are they just saying that? the only thing i think when i want to give all this blood is that it helps three people.
I had one of those blood drives at school last year, But I learnt that they sold our blood donations from the year before for high prices so I refused to do it.. Anyway, yeah you can't have any illegal drugs in your system at the time of the donation...and you will probably just feel a bit dizzy, just eat and drink some juices after it
I know the Plasma Donation centers in Indianapolis are that way. You start coming up positive for opiates or cocaine and they'll get your ass for it. I say opiates and cocaine because they only test for syringe drugs.
The risk of spreading diseases that are commonly associated with the use of syringe drugs. It's endangerment. It's right there in the paperwork when you sign up. They do an STD test and a drug test which is promptly followed by a serious and stern disclaimer. Man, I wish I could be as smug as you.
you shouldnt have to worry about the drugs, my stoner buddies all gave blood at our school and the people taking the blood said they were fine.
they red cross lady that came into our room today after school "trained" us who are helping out. she said after everyone donates blood they send it to there lab and run tests for HIV, hipitiuts B and C and west nile virus. if you have it they discard the blood and let the infected person know. i cant believe that a blood drive area would sell the blood. i thought donation means free hence the ever so need of blood these days and the people in the poor conditions to begin with. my grandpa had blood transfusions when he had acute lukekemia before he died and he didnt have to pay for it. i personally cant look at blood the slightest or ill be down on the ground faster than you can say Hi! so ill be doing the regestration table. the sucky part of all this is that they will have all the pint baggys hanging around all over the place. the worst was when she pointed out this small dansani bottle showing us how much a pint of blood is. i cant believe they can take that much out and you still be alive. i strongly dislike blood.
but your body makes more of it...suppossely... . i used to have a weird thing with my blood. i mean its my own unique blood and i wouldnt let anyone take my blood nor accept anyones blood. but in order for me to be coverd by my insurance they abosoultly needed a CBC blood thing to run tests on...ya know what they found? nothing wrong with me! and to think all that blood was wasted! damn blood drawers... what did i get out of it, ya ask? my mom making fun of my shaking on the floor and fainting.
I haven't ever donated blood, but I may in the future. I don't think I'd have a problem with it; the sight of blood doesn't move me. Why do you think it affects you so strongly, Veroness? I don't even know what my blood type is, but I got really curious about it during my bio class this semester and I'm planning on getting a blood-typing kit soon. Fun
sorry if i cane off as smug, i tried to be inquisitive yet not argumentative by stating my opinion and asking a question. rather than telling you that you were wrong, and calling you names. i still disagree.
oh and i have no idea what blood type i am but after you give blood, they mail you a donor card with your blood type. i have been so eager to find that out and my doctor never knew!
