I have no idea what pig weed it but the only way to get rid of weeds is by weeding!! That's if you are an organic planet friendly person....
....the alternative is to encourage small people to learn about weeding. Ree thinks it's great for about 5 minutes!!
It's still one of my favorite passtimes. But you have to learn the difference between what's considered in your garden a weed and a plant. I had early training like your little one. Always remember if you can't totally iradicate the weeds at least interfere with the life cycle. Don't allow them to go to seed. And mulch is your biggest friend when waging battle with weeds. I have friends that will let their Johnson grass go, because according to them they can't get all the root....well they let them go to seed and the next year they have even more. You don't always have to get the root. Interrupting the life cycle can also give control.
now wait a min. pigweed to me is lambsquarters! am i wrong? if not, its a very good and tasty edible! if we are talking about the same plant i like it better than spinach! get it while its young! cook it the same way ! yummmmm
Yeah, I think that's what we are talking about. Around here we call it Indian tobacco, since native americans supposedly smoked the dried flower heads. Never tried eating it.
The trick is to get them to weed around something really big. Ree made a great job of weeding around the base of the broad beans yesterday. I never let him get near where anything small and tender is growing in a bed that needs weeding- just incase.
