Hi all, I finally decided to grow. Now, i'm not here to annoy anyone with stupid questions or anything like that, i'm just going to make a journal of how the growing goes. I'll make new posts everytime something new comes up (germination begins, plant grows, problems, etc) and hopefully other people can use this journal as an example of a first time grower and correct any problems that can occur during the harvest.

    May 27, Day 1 - Germination begins

I got 5 seeds (from 17 I have) from regular weed, and put them in between two wet, folded, paper towels inside a zip lock bag, i'll sprinkle some water on the paper towels if i feel they are not wet enough.

    Wait for updates (and pics)!

    Yay, I love grow journals.

Do you plan on growing them indoors or outdoors?

Outdoors, at the roof of my house. I figured it can get plenty of light and carbon dioxide.

One question: after the seeds start germinating should i transfer them to a paper cup with soil or directly into a pot i bought?

Ok, i checked this morning and the seeds have started to germinate (i can see a white hair growing from the seed), i'm gonna wait a few more hourse until i check again, take some pics and ask if i should transfer them into a pot with soil (the hair facing upwards?)

Day 2 - Planting the seeds

So from bush basher's comment, the root (the white thing) is starting to grow. I'm gonna put them in the soil about 1/2 and inch deep with the root facing upwards (is that right?). Please correct me if i am doing anything wrong.

Thanks, already planted the seeds, now we just wait...
Two problems now, as it's growing outdoors i can't do the 24 hour lighting system it's more like 12 hours of light (7 am - 7 pm), so is this going to change drastically my results. And i got some regular soil from a gardening store, and i'mm not sure if it's the propper soil to start growing with, any advices would be greatly appreciated.

doubt it. the energy from the sun is probably twice the amount it needs in 12 hours...thats how plants grow

Yeah! A lot! Living that close to the Equator (with equal day and night times) your plants will autoflower whenever they are ready, once they have matured (about 4-5 weeks minimum). This could get very interesting! Tropical grows always fascinate me!! ?Habla ud. espanol, amigo?

What do you mean by regular soil? Is it top soil, potting soil, or potting mix? What you can get there may not be anything I am familiar with. Will your whole grow be in pots, or do you plan on planting into the ground? If you're going to stay in pots, the type of soil is much more important. I don't know what to recommend because I don't know where you are or what you have available to you.

Hey, thank god for the sun in here, I live in Mexico by the way (13 hours of sun today!) and yeah, i speak spanish, haha.

The bag says that it's soil for pots and gardens, it says it's mixed with soil from mountains and "black" soil (translated so not sure), it also says that the drainage is great and that it perserves oxygen. I'm plannig on leaving the plants on a pot at my roof (a lot of wind too). It's day 3 now, and nothing has come out of the earth yet, i think i'm not watering enough, i just gave the pot 500 ml of clean water (from a water bottle) hopefully something will grow this week!

    P.S. Thanks for the help!

IME, I water till it runs out of the bottom of the planter. Just make sure you have good drainage holes. That way you're sure all of the roots get some of the water. Happy growing :D

Yeah, the soil sounds like the right stuff! Don't water too much, overwatering isn't good. When you saturate the pot, pick it up and feel how heavy it is. Wait untill the pot gets fairely light before you water again. Overwatering and overfeeding are the two mistakes made most often by beginners - trust me, it doesn't help, it only makes matters worse! The plants will be ready for some added nutrients when they about a month old, you can add some fertilizer when you move up to a bigger sized pot.

some suggest planting the them so that the seed is facing semi downards because the seedling will naturally bend up, but its whatever works.

I would suggest putting it in to the biggest pot possible first because less chance of transplant shock.

    Watering:

I always wait until the soil drys out before I water again. I've learned from experience that its real easy to over water seedlings :(

    Day 3

At first there was nothing growing yet, i digged a little cause i think they were too deep and found this:

It looks as it's growing a little sideways and slow, but hey, it's growing. Oh and i covered it with soil (not much).

FINALLY! 4 of them have sprouted! They are about 2 centimetres (.4 inches), now that they have grown should i be doing anything different? More watering?

You're expecting too much. Just give it time. The pic you took has 2 plants pretty close together and it is possible the stronger one will kill the other one. Just keep watering them regularly, but once again, not too much. In about a month they should be a foot tall at the most. Mine are about a foot after a month.
