OK, Obviously not all hip-hop promotes violence, but ALOT of POPULAR hip-hop does, and that is what tends to give it shitty stereotypes. Thats why Oprah won't let rap artists on her show (not that it really matters to much) and many people associates hip-hop with violence and drugs. Ok, hopefully we can end the argument agreeing on that point, because this is really going no where.
Maybe if the title said POPULAR hiphop and hippies don't go together, the troll's attempt would have failed lol.
slapping hoes: farmers! (a hoe is a tool. 'ho' is short for whore...which if your lady goddess is acting like one, leave.) off to make hoe cake...
what the hell, everyone is really angry about this. Ha, yo I dont know how many times people have to repeat this, not all hip hop talks about killing and fucking hos. Thats not even hip hop, thats all trash. You need to listen to someone dropping down some fucking knowledge on a track. And I know these are hippy forums and I agree hippy's and hip hop dont mix but, if it bothers all of you ignorant mother fuckers then why would you go onto this section of the forums and complain about why its here, there arent any other forums you could waste your time on?
I dont here shit about the ghetto anymore. Now its all about cars, houses, bling, rims, and ass. I Love hip-hop it makes my white ass feel like a thug.
hahahahahaha that shit is hilarious. check this shit out theses guys are friends of mine. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=43074039
Actually if you knew anything about real hip hop other than the mainstream bull jive you wouldn't say that. There are plenty of hip hop ARTIST that are about peace and sending a postive message. There is plenty of bad music in all different realms of the arts. I was once ignorant like you then I dated a music producer who changed my view. MAybe you should listen to common or the roots or jedi mind tricks or ayatollah.
I'm hippie, but I like rap artist like Run D.M.C . I think that is classic of that kind of music. Guys from this formation said in one of the intervievs that they were prefer peace and love and they were agree with hippies. I think that is positive side of rap music. I hate new hipihop, just sucks. take care, pace man
Personaly I am not a fan of any rap/ hip hop.. People like Eminem and half dollar there whats his name 50 cent? about all hes worth disgust me but Id have to agree with most of you that not all of it is about cuttin people up or bustin a cap its people like the aboved mentioned that give it a bad name Ive heard some that really sent a positive message go on youtube and look up the song "mojo" by peeping tom that is actualy one I enjoied and the message was positive and not to mention I am a big Mike patton fan anyone who remembers faith no more or Mr. Bungle knows who Im talking about it also features Rahzel from the hiphop group Roots this goes to show you that not all of it is like that
The topic of this thread is the most ridiculous idea I've ever heard. Sure, I'm not crazy about "Fitty Scent" or whatever it's called lol, but that's not going to turn me off of my love for some of Tupac Shakur's work, for example. Please don't let the current mainstream music scene known as hip-POP influence your opinion on the genre as a whole. The roots of hip hop are actually predominantly an anti-conformist, anti-oppression, non-violent expression of free speech. It's passion in another dialect, so take a listen. There's mention of violence or morbid undertones in many other genres, just open your mind a little bit and overcome these stereotypes people! And please don't try to dictate what I can or can't listen to as a hippie. I can connect to any music, hippies don't only dig Phish. Peace Energy.
rofl afaik tupac is the best selling rapper of all time, it doesn't get much more mainstream than that. And he doesn't preach violence and hoes? I used to listen to 2pac almost exclusively when I was like 12-13, "when i get free mother fuckers better watch they ass" there's a nice positive song right there about getting freed from jail and doing something constructive with your life.
If you listened to Pac exclusively, then you'd know not all his songs were about violence and depravity, and that he had a lot of meaningful messages and sentiment in his lyrics. Sure, many of his songs were about killing people and causing pain, but, likewise, many of his songs were about overcoming those things and, also, about bettering himself and his people. Tupac deserves nothing but respect because, even though some of his songs may be ignorant and violent, most of his songs were about betterment and improvement, in a motaphoric manner. Instead of just "hearing" what he's saying, listen to the meaning behind his words. Most of his songs were merely descriptions of hypothetical situations that he has had to face or that he has seen others face throughout his life. Pac's lyrics shouldn't always be taken for their literal meaning; rather, they should be taken for their spiritual introspection and lifetime observations.
