World Langauges and there pointlessness in school

im starting a boycott agaisnt this shit i eamn they say its good to learn a language so when foreigners come to america you can communciate with them... but if there coming to america they should atleast learn our fucking langauge

 

that's kinda stupid. i plan on going to spain, italy, france and germany, but i'm not going to spend too much of my valuable time learning their language. too many to learn, not enough time.

 

everyone i know who has taken a language can not even remember it douring the summer after the school year is over...

i took spanish for 7 years and failed every year...

 

I guess you never plan on leaving the country then?

i don't think they should have to learn our language really, I think they should do whatever they want.

 

yea, man, leaarn some languages BEFORE you have children and jobs to deal with. a little head start will help when you take a "refresher" course before you travel.

oh, wait, was that a mild kc ass-jumping? there's too many other languages for me to learn for me to get really good at them. it's not like i get pissy when someone doesn't speak english, i just deal with it. i don' tthink anyone else should get pissy, either. but as for high schoolers, shit, learn as much as you can before you're out making your own way in this world, because then shit just isn't gonna work out in your favor.

Before you put down other people for not speaking our language, you should at least learn how to write it.

i think we should learn to speak other languages, but i agree they should learn ours to... every school in the world should teach all world languages... just my thoughts

 

i think its kinda pintless to teach language in highschool,

teach us when were really young so it will be with us. thats the best way to do it.

 

um.... i married an exchange student who learned english for 6 years in school because he had to before he decided that he wanted to visit the states. . . ..... and my school had no german which put me way back because now i live in germany and had to learn the language here from scratch. im very thankful that my husband had to learn english. otherwise we would not be together today.

 

as far as teaching it in highschool instead of younger grades.. yeah thats pointless too cuz half of us arent interested enough to start a language at that age. start it younger when we are interested and our minds better for that kind of thing anyway.. plus... what you learn in highschool isnt enough to really help you out much. . what im really upset about is how bad some of the teachers of foreign language are. i had spanish for 3 years in higschool and didnt learn a thing.. ok say its my fault.. .it was i wasnt interested.. BUT those who were interested also didnt learn a thing... why? because the teacher couldnt speak the language herself. it was all vocab tests and translations. bullshit. we had a spanish exchange student take the class to help him with his english.. and he couldnt understand the spanish teacher and she couldnt understand him. he said she was teaching us all wrong. maybe thats just one example and doesnt mean anything but i think if someone is gonna be a foreign language teacher they need to be able to speak the language pretty fluently themselves.

 

languages are best taught when your young in school or through emersion courses. i didn't learn any language until highschool, then i took 3 years of French in highschool and i barely remember how to say "my name is" in French. if i want to learn a language now, i'd be better off going through an emersion course instead of taking a language in college.
