OMG I see those signs all the time! I've lived in OH, IN, and MI and they are NOT a rare sight. Personally I have always gone barefoot and where I am refused service I don't give my service. I eat at private cafes and dinners where their clientel is valuable to them. I do not shop at chains, I shop at locally owned stores where my feet don't come into question I really hate the midwest, it is far more conservative than you could imagine out in CA! Hope to join you soon on the westcoast!
We don't have any signs like that. None at all, Nobody bothers barefooters here, luckly! I live in Edinburgh, Scotland and started to barefoot two months ago. And really, I have seen no signs anywhere saying no shoes. None, None at all. It suprised me...
I'm glad I live in northern California. I go barefoot just about everywhere on weekends, and nobody thinks a thing of it. Never seen a sign, not even at Walmart.
I live in Hull, northern UK, and there are no nsnsns signs here. Yeterday i was in a store (Asda) owned by Wal-Mart, and there were two other barefooters shopping there , and no one looked twice at us. In my experience of thirty years regular barefooting, there is no problem anywhere in the UK. We have barefoot freedom! (pity about the weather...)
I agree, by the time youre in high school most kids are smart enough to know right from wrong so if they take their shoes off its reasonable to assume they know and understand the risks of doing so, so if they get hurt then they obviously take the responsibility for whatever happens. I dont think adults need to make kids wear shoes just to prevent them from getting hurt because it by means ensures that they will not get hurt. Just let kids be kids. Stuff happens but thats how you learn. Its discrimination plain and simple. Most people try to claim that since theyre a private business its okay to treat customers like that but its still wrong. If you want to go barefoot then do it, dont let anyone stop you. Theyre your feet and youre doing nothing wrong and youre the customer and thats all that matters. I do too, just because you HAVE rollerblades with you doesnt mean you intend to wear them in the store and even if you do, so what? Most kids who use those things are careful. Why should they punish the rest of us for those few who are clumsy and shouldnt be using them in the first place? There really is no need for such signs. Thats why people break the rules all the time and have no respect for authority because they dont respect us or give us any reason to respect them or follow their rules. Theyre oppressive. Thats what really bothers me besides the fact they even have such an idiotic rule is that they dont bother to post a sign saying so or they dont tell you its against the rules until after the fact or they have a sign that is too small or out of the way where you cant see it. If youre gonna go to all the trouble to discirminate against someone and have a rule like that at least be polite enough to post it out in plain sight and big enough so we can all read it clearly so there is no doubt what the rules are. A few years back i visited my ex gf in IN and before I came there she told me to ALWAYS wear a shirt and shoes into businesses. I thought it was silly because I figured she was just telling me this as a result of what others had told her and was overreacting and then she claimed that one friend of hers was refused service for being shirtless in a store. Still I thought it was absurd and I told her I was gonna go shirtless anyways and see what happened, I wasnt gonna worry about it. She made such a big stink about it though and I didnt want to ruin a good trip plus mess up my relationship with her so I just wore the shirt inside most places, I ended up seeing alot of those NS3 signs everywhere which surprised me because im not used to them, most places I go enforce the rule without the sign and the sheer amount of places there that denied service to shirtless customers was mind boggling, especially considering how hot it was. Needless to say we are no longer together now. As it was I shouldve just told her the heck with it and gone shirtless anyways and just seen where I could get away with it. Even her friends put up a stink when I was shirtless outside, it really turned me off. They all seemed to act all proper and well to do and it was insulting. Of course it was okay for them to wear all their punk and skater clothing that had all sorts of curse words and vulgar images on it and oh that was okay but I couldnt be caught dead shirtless. That really makes me mad. Seriously I need to date someone more laid back and free. Thats the idea to eat somewhere the manager is the person who actually owns the business and can decide on their own what the customer wear without some big corporation with some gutless lawyers butting in and they actually care about the customer because theyre important to them and they need every customer they can get. Thats why these big corporations dont like places like that and want to drive them out of business because they dont make the kind of money these places do by squeezing everyone dry of cash and insulting customers. Im sorry but thats not the way to run a good business. Bare feet should never come into question. Thats why I dont LIVE in the midwest and I live out here in CA where people are more sane, of course that depends on where you go shopping. Mike
