haha, figured this was the most relevant forum to post my newest news in...since it's dread related and all. I'm employed. Helllllls yeah! I haven't been looking for a job since I got the dreads...mostly because I'm not a fan of being a wage slave, but also because I've gotten nothing but negative energy from my entire family since doing the deed. My hair's gotten to the point where you can tell it's dreads. And I have a few beads in..so that makes it all the more obvious. So I moved almost 2 weeks ago on a Saturday. On Monday I applied at 3 places. On Tuesday I got 3 phone calls and went in for 3 interviews...got 3 job offers. I can only handle one job, so I turned down two places...And on Wednesday I had a job! I've been working at Hobby Lobby since! I frame stuff. Given...Hobby Lobby doesn't probably care as much as most people about appearance. But the other two places who offered me jobs DO. (Subway (ewwww) and Hastings.) Lesson learned? If you smile enough, people don't notice or care about the hair.
i work at a hospital.. work when im off school... they have not seen my dreads yet, as ive not started this summer (worked same place 3 summers before). hope they are ok with them. if they ask me to get rid of them i think ill quit =S
wow, of all places that accept dreads, hobby lobby? they're run by christians...you'd think they'd be more, you know, conservative. i guess they're the cool type of christians, that accept people for who they are, and don't judge others (like me!) it's my personal belief that jesus had dreads...i doubt he fretted over personal appearance. congrats to your new job though!
dude. my church is like that, too. i'm scottish so sometimes i wear my kilt to church. they don't care. if my mom would quit freaking out about skulls, i could wear a skull t-shirt and they wouldn't care. and everybody there said that they liked my dreads and that they looked good on me. i can't stand it when people shun other people because of their looks. anyway, cool you got a job
dude, skulls are really trendy right now. Like Abercrombie trendy. It's acceptable in all circles at the moment. And yeah...Hobby Lobby has a lot of alternative type people working there...well half of us are. The other half are super conservative people. Haha...my manager is cool. It was my birthday a few days ago...and he found out. And asked if I wanted him to get me high for a birthday present.
old navy aint that bad...nor that trendy...its just cheap simple clothes haha i shouldn't talking though..i haven't bought anything there in years sorry lil of topic ^.^
*waves* hi sam i used to shop at old navy, then i realized that they dont really sell any black clothing... though i do have one awesome shirt that says AMSTERDAM on it and it is black so that shirt is ok!
I love old navy...but the clothes aren't cheap anymore. They're fucking expensive now! Like a shirt costs around $30.
Good job! It is hard as hell to find a job with dreads unless you apply at a headshop. I went through hell finding work
me and my almost three year old dreads got a job at a volvo dealership, but i am just a mechanic but its a up scale place i think any way. so if you got the skills i gess some people will over look the hair and give you a chance.
my job hired me cause i have dreads (a restuarant). I've also seen dreadies at coffee shops, target, hastings, art supply stores, some retail, grocery, etc. Its all on how you present yourself. I just got an internship that has a "businessy" dress code and says your hair has to be combed and neat. I said I cant. They are looking the other way, as long as I pull it back.
