Cell phones are convenient and nice to have, but I don't get into the phones that also serve as an mp3 player, TV, computer, washing machine, fridge, etc. I'm more into the simplistic phones because it's just nice to have a phone when you're away from home...and I must admit that I enjoy texting every once in a while.
What if something happens to someone from your family?...Wouldn't you like to know that, so you could come as soon as you can and help?... Or, if you're waiting for someone who can't come to meet you and can't reach you to tell you that because you don't own a cellphone, so you keep on waiting?...Or, if you keep someone else waiting because you can't call and say you're stuck in traffic?... There are millions of situations when cellphone is absolutelly indispensable...
They lived for years and years and years just fine without them. They weren't indispensable when we were little kids, and they aren't now. You can always get ahold of them eventually SOMEWAY somehow.
No its not wierd its a good thing. I have one and use it very limited. People walk around or sit some place that would make it annoying and just text for the next fucking hour. Cell phones are annoying as shit in lots of ways.
Ok look: If it traveled through time I might own one but only if I didn't have to sign a contract.... cuz it would probably be with like, the devil or something like that. Other than that its just like others are saying about people in public yaking loudly being rude as hell. Also I really hate to see people using their cell phone and driving at the same time. Most people can't drive to begin with and once you give them a cell phone they're just hurling 2 or 3 ton projectiles down the road. Plus cell phones are so clicky it seems and I don't want to be part of the click.
i only own a work one. I hated it when I had a personal one and had no excuse not to talk. The only reason I would consider getting a personal one for is because i like talking to my bf. I really hate talking to anyone else on a cell phone. I think they are rude and obnoxious and it really bothers me when people talk on them in the store or especially in resturaunts or bars, unless they are trying to get a hold of someone meeting them there or something.
my husband is one of those guys whose phone goes off all the freaking time. poor guy can't get off the phone. and he HATES the phone. but that's the sort of job he has. i can live with that. and his son texts him and calls him once a day. he's got the hands-free system in his car, because he's always gotta drive somewhere, and that bluetooth gadget. i look at how he has to deal with it and i think to myself, i'd go on a face-chewing rampage. i'd KILL people. with my teeth.
i <3 my cell but only use it to talk to my mom and boyfriend. Well, sometimes I'll call other people but it's rare! My boyfriend is very protective of me (as is my mom) and they demand that I have one. It's cool though, I get to talk to my hunny whenever I can that way!
Is his son doing better health-wise? Ever since you posted that thread I've frequently wondered and prayed.
HE IS AWESOME. he finished his last round of chemo and is feeling good. his hair fell out, and he lost a lot of weight he couldn't afford to lost. but he's doing great. he's coming up for the summer. we're really excited.
yes. very much so. in fact, they can't find a TRACE of it anymore. unheard of. and his blood counts are beyond perfection. we're so excited.
If someone in my family is hurt I hope they call a fucking ambulance, they will reach me soon enough, it's not like I have gone to the moon for three months if I am out getting groceries for an hour. If something happens to one of my kids at school and I am away from a phone, again, call an ambulance, and there are other emergency numbers in their school files. I highly doubt that being able to call me when I am in a toilet stall at the mall is ever going to save the world.
I don't know, I don't own a landline because I find just having a cell is cheaper for me so my cell is my landline. I don't really talk on it that much but I do like having it when I'm out for emergencies.
Good point. I don't really think it's selfish per say but I do like knowing that if someone I love needs me they can reach me.
I'm starting to need mine less and less.. As for wanting it, sure, it's good to know that friends and family have a way to contact me no matter where I am.. I'll never be able to give my phone up completely, and I'll admit that it'ss a reassuring bulge in my pocket. I do wish I'd not given in so easily to own one in the first place, as, obvioulsy, I wouldn't miss it at all!
