it seem that some of the original "hippies" did not care for animal rights much.

i base this on the fact that alot of them wore leather...(vests, shoes, pants ect...)

this is probbly because of the native american/spirtial influences but i still dont fully understand y they did this....or maybe they just didnt care/or know about animal rights

i dont think animal rights was ever an issue for the original hippies....they had much more important things to worry about like the vietnam war, the draft, racism, etc etc. a lot of the movies and books and things like that that ive seen about hippies, i noticed that none of them are vegitarian or make a big deal about eating meat and all that.

about the leather wearing part.....i believe that the hippies were just trying to survive, and leather is pretty warm.....

A very interesting thought Willy Wonka...

Maybe they were more about connecting with the earth than all the beasts upon it.

    Hippie = abbreviation for hypocrite?

The philosophy was flawed but it had a lot of good things about it too.

you mentioned the native americans...i want to expand on that

the native americans did use animal skin for clothing yes...but they also used up every resource and part of the animal and did not waste one thing...they did not see it just as a meal and to throw away the excess such as the european settlers and colonists...they respected the animal...this may or may not have answered your question.

Man animals are creatures i love them but back then it was about stopping the war we need to think of our own race first nam was top of the list simple as that!

    Question:
Why should people not eat animals? I don't eat meat because of all of the negative energy used in the 'processing' of my meat. The only meat I will eat is from familiy farms, the kinda sold in 'organic' stores.

Why should we not pratice what nature is showing us to do? Eat or be eaten?

When I grew up the typical hippie pastimes were bookbinding and leather work. Some people still do the latter. They use soldering irons to make patterns in leather.

Concerning '1': Ok, good point. But, read on.

Concerning '2': I didn't mean we are going to be eaten if we don't eat, but, most vegetarians that I know are more 'natural' and usually 'naturists' or 'barefooters.' If they want to be more natural, then shouldn't they do what the animals are doing? They are eating one another.

Which is one sort of 'theory' I have heard.
Since animals aren't evolved to our brain activity level, they don't understand the reasoning behind it. I mean, they don't have 'human reasoning.'

where did we come up with these rules to be a hippie? The hippies weren't perfect beings.Just like any generation you can find faults and hypacritism and bad spelling and meat eaters.Utopia is only a concept.
