If you want to debate something, that's great.

But repeating yourself is terribly troll-ish behaviour. Either say something that's actually a counter point or shush with the trollishness

    Pervert, (Are you a priest?)

An ad hominem attack is a logical fallacy describing the attempt to discredit an argument by merely attacking the credibility of the arguer.

The thread is a discussion of the insidious way that TV programs the sub conscious of innocent viewers to discredit the credibility of the arguer rather than the credibility of the argument…in other word… conform, compete, consume, breed... conform, compete, consume, breed...conform, compete, consume, breed...conform, compete, consume, breed...conform, compete, consume, breed...

I used you figuratively rather than literally in the initial post.

I’m not interesting in debating my own credibility or yours for that matter…I have faith that you do have some. And besides that, I'm afraid that you have already reached the rank of Master Debater and I prefer soft hands.

As much flaming as you do you ought to think about opening a BBQ joint or at least smoke one!

Much peace and eternal luv, your brother in ecstasy! Benther Dondat

I read this whole thread thing and found it so funny! Especially the first couple of pages. I agree with LuckyStripe, LakeOffire, Apples+Oranjes, MagicalMushy and Ihmurria they all had some good posts. This whole is so immature tho, like thehippy_08 said, I think that people that aren't easily influenced aren't just going to change their views and opinions by something they see on tv, or become conformists. I don't watch alot of tv, only a couple of fav shows, i don't see anything wrong with that because I still have my individual views and opinions.

And Benther Dondat, that thing you keep saying over and over again (Conform...Compete...Consume...Breed) is really freaky, and I think if you had a good point you shouldn't have to say it more than once, but I still totally respect your opinions

It blows my mind...infants are sweet souls born to love and live and share.

Do we teach them the most fundamental of all truths...that the garden is our mother?

No! we sit their young, loving, trusting, innocent little asses in front of the great-big-glowing-box-thingy...turn the channel to the Pit bull Bible Thumper's latest rendition of the Hypnotic Zombie Drone Chant...set the timer to a lifetime...flip the program switch to ON and distract them while we go away to have more me-me’s.

Our babies learn to hearthe words even when there is no sound!

    Conform…compete…consume…breed…conform…compete…cons ume…breed…conform …compete…consume…breed…conform…compete…consume…bre ed…conform

    The circle is unbroken!

The nature of human nature is Mother Nature and the mother of nature is the garden.

Only the weak minded are influnenced by what's on tv. The strong minded can sit and watch and be uneffected by it like me.

It's depressing that people direct their animosity at the corruption of something as wonderful as television against the medium, and not those who corrupted it.

Why not make your own TV shows for the kids to watch?

I agree, one of my friends just wants to watch mtv whenever I go over. Personaly, I rarely watch tv, but I know most others are different. Kids now learn their lessons from mtv.

I can't believe there are such argumentative people in here.

I don't recall the OP ever attacking someone for watching the television.

I don't believe he is angry with television all together.

He understands that people generally do soak up some of what they see and hear on TV, whether it's consciously or subconsciously. I feel that it's obvious. Just take a look at today's youth, they are a great example of the product of MTV society. It's just the way they broadcast SOME shows, and the content, it's pushing us towards a more unhealthy culture. Commercials are a pretty sweet method of brainwashing, of course, but I guess they "need" them to help pay for air-time.

Everyone is getting soooo defensive, it's hilarious. Oh noes, you've offended me! My TV is a motherfucking godsend, you prick! "It's my hot body, I'll do what I want!" ahhhhh hahahahh

I think his point is that the focus is no longer on LIFE, it's on <insert paid programming here>

So? Pretty much every artistic medium has had its casualties, people who get so wrapped up in it that they take little or no notice of life. Ever see "Never Ending Story"? It's not just TV. If he was really just speaking out against people not living their lives, he seemed to focus inordinately on TV as a source of this. It seems to buy into that "golden age" idea, the desire to believe that life was just better back then, when really, some people have always been pretty good at squandering their lives, before during and after TV.

Plus what difference does it make if you spend your days running around in fields or watching TV? It's not like you're actually doing anything productive either way. In what sense is TV not a part of "LIFE"?

nah. i reject the original post entirely. i subscribe to satellite television for a reason. did you know they have commercial free educational stations? shows that have, through their brilliant audio/visual techniques have done way more to help my daughter learn to read and write? helped her learn problem solving, some sign language and songs i've never heard before? i'm not a teacher. i have no ability or inclination and don't want my daughters affected by my problems. my daughters have developed a love of classical music, painting and stories that i never would have been able to give them. it's a tool. like any tool, you have to use it right.

in my experience, babies are babies, not perfect little pure souls. they're selfish, self centered and greedy and have every right to be so. otherwise they'd never survive. we love them so completely and utterly that it doesn't matter, because as a parent, you know that's just your baby being a baby. but they learn this same stuff from inclination as well. after all, when a kid starts running around and exploring, how many parents do you hear saying 'yes yes yes' instead of "no no no?" not many, not if they want their child to survive.

I was going to say, it's a serious myth that TV is all garbage. "Extension of the senses" is a good thing. OK, so there's a lot of crap on TV; there's a lot of crap in other aspects of real life too. Hardly seems fair to bitch at TV for occasionally being mind-numbing when that's true of anything.

EDIT: Personally, I'm pretty sure I learned a lot more from TV than I did iat school in my teenage years.

Sorry but, blaming something like television for the world's problems is a copout!

If you have a problem with it then do something about it and stop bitching.
