its not so bad, stores are kinda expensive too, foxfarm big bloom easily gots for a little less than double the site in some stores
^ Seriously, my local hydro shop taxes people out the ass. $20 for a bad of ocean forest, and $18 for light warrior. My buddy paid almost 500 for a 400w electronic ballast. I'll buy the cheaper stuff there, but I'm not spending 500 on a ballast.
Shipping dirt ain't "Dirt Cheap"! What we really need is a simple recipe for "roll your own" Ocean Forest. Something made from ingredients that can be obtained locally, at a reasonable cost. I have seen so many recipes for good potting mixes, and they are all over the place as far as ingredients go. What about it? Do we have any "Mix Master" Guru's out there that feel up to the task of leading a discussion? Help us find the way - I've got lots of questions.
Ya know I can't even believe that damn shipping cost. I mean hell I went 50 miles to a hydro store and got 3 bags @ 20.95 a piece. I just put my first two 5 day plants in the "gold" dirt this very evening. Gonna repot some house plants in th FF/OF to do some experimenting. ANyone tell me me what the ph of the the gold dirt is ?
I'm lucky potting soil-wise; I live a couple hours drive from where Fox Farms soil is made. It's in stores all over the place for about $8/bag. But I use a knock-off of Fox Farms O & F, something called Power Flower...same ingredients but a buck a bag cheaper. It's WAY cheaper if you drive there in a pick-up and they just load you up, unbagged. Ends up to be the equiv. of about $4/bag. For thise of you outside the left coast, go to a large plant nursery/garden center and lok for organic compost-based potting soil with lots of organic goodies like bird/bat guano, seaweed/kelp, worm castings, lime, perlite & mychorrizae. Stay away from miracle grow (shudder) or soil with chem.'s.
Sweet Deal for the emerald triangle growers, eh, I'm gonna do that/one big hole grow with buffulo compost and a soiless mix plus perlite. : A strain that I just got 10 seeds of from mandala seed. "Satori" about a 60/40 sativa Does Fox Farm have the initial ph level on the bag somewheres ??????
I was told you can make organic soil with Hyponex, Bone meal, Blood meal, Perlite, and some Dolomite lime. Does that sound right? And if you went with a setup like that, would you still have to put organic nutrients(ex. iguana juice) in the water? Kinda confused and I really would like to skip the trial and error stage and not kill them
"Hyponex" is a brand name that comes under the "Scott's" umbrella. Hyponex produces a wide variety of products - which one are you refering to? I am assuming that you mean the "Plain Jane" (no nurients added) potting mix. Bloodmeal and Bonemeal will produce lots Nitrogen (N) and Phosphorous (P), but you will still need to ramp up the Potassium (K). Greensand is an exellent source of Potassium and some manures aren't bad either. A well balanced organic soil will carry your plants all the way through flowering with just the addition some "flowering tea" at the appropriate time. Using such a basic recipe can be misleading - what about the secondary nutrients (Calcium, Magnesium and Sulphur)? And the trace nurients (too numerous to mention), are they all there in sufficient amounts? A well balanced organic mix uses a wider variety of ingredients so that everything is included, in the proper ratio. It can be done, but it ain't easy to find the perfect mix! If it was easy FoxFarm's Ocean Forest wouldn't be so damn expensive! Another cheaper alternitive is Kellogg's "Patio Plus".
Kellogg's "Patio Plus"? Really? Does it work as well as FoxFarm or is it "you get what you pay for" situation? Thanks again
