And I read inside the book somwhere about how Jesus talks of the kingdom of heaven already being inside us. - Myslef avoiding a bible quote that I really like. I thought I would open with one of my favourite saying's from Jesus, because I think Jesus was groovy, and even when I wore a cross and people would ask "are you christian?" I would simply reply with just that "I think Jesus was groovy". Now the point to all this rambling is this, alot of people seem to be questioning "Christianity" at the moment and alot of people seem to be having trouble with the mixed definition. We've seen it almost every single debate, a need to describe a true Christian. The problem being that it seems almost everyone in one way or another has their own definition on what makes a true Christian opposed to a Christian. I propose that those who have been overly critical of Christianity are more offended by the church and the control of the book then worship of the man himself. So what do you think a 'true Christian' is and are the Church and Jesus Christ devisible?
Us muslims tend to call them PAULians, since they take more from Paul then they do from Jesus AS. I have really failed to see any "religion" in christianity, since all it seems like is going to church on sunday then acting like a jerk for the rest of the week.
i think a true christian is who follows what CHRIST said not paul or some other asshole would didnt even know him. yeah man about the whole asshole week days and holy sundays is so true, it should be a walk through all life not just one day to try to look good. anyways i think half of that is because people are pushed in xtianity from family, like slammed with it from youth so its like a fear factor of hell. people need to choose their own religion.
religion is obsolete. christ was the first famous hippie...a cool guy that likely was the most transcendant of his time (hense all the hype) ....but he was a man-son of god like we all are. speaking from the perspective of an x-nun i can say that the truest offense to jesus is religion itself....jesus often spoke of the kingdom of heaven within-i believe he meant that literally. he taught to seek one's own divine connection, on a personal level. his reference to son-father was to be used as an example...as in "speak to god like its your dad"....its everyone else that twisted it all up. to be saved.....saved from what? even the concept of "christianity" would be an offence to jesus. he was a humanist not a christian. creation was his church.
Jesus held the same beliefs that all those that have woken up share together. Heaven and Hell are all in our Mind, and we can change them at ANY time we want.
I think Skip is the one who deleted your sick posts of anal sodomy and stuff, and how u anally sodomised some female dog and stuff. It was a bit sick.
I think a true Christian is a person which follows the teachings of Jesus. Peace, love, tolerance, and helping others (among other things). I think the "Church" (as in the most main-stream denominations of Christianity) has strayed very far from those teachings, to the point where they shouldn't even be able to call themselves Christians. Most main-stream Christians twist the words of the Bible to fit their needs. They take laws from the Old Testament which were made obsolete by Jesus and his disciples for anything negative they have to say and then take pages from the New Testament to further other motives. It's rediculous and it mocks the religion.
Actually he was Jewish if anything. Celebrated passover, went to Temple. There is no way he could have been Christian as the religion was only made after his death.
FedUp, you're missing the point of this thread, it is an opportunity for people to point out exactly what they are attacking or defending here. You saying "The bible states that..." is irrelevent when the poster has said nothing in relation to the 'bible' being a source of christianity. I ask you to remain on topic in this thread and to stick to the discussion in as open minded and progressive way as possible.
I agree completely and I think it is very important for people to be able to differentiate between Jesus Christ, The bible and the church, they are related but they are not the same.
I don't even think they're related anymore. The Church (main stream Christianity) has strayed way way too far from Jesus and The Bible.
There are other Christian works besides the Bible, though it is the main one. But some Christians (more than you would think) keep an open mind and don't base their belief on the Bible but rather use it as a guiding tool.
And so those people who "take what they can use to fit their life and disregard the rest" are not true Christians. Not to say a true Christian has to believe in every word of the Bible, they just need to, again, follow what Jesus taught to the best of their abilities. I NEED BREAKFAST RAWR!
Being a Christian means loving everyone as Jesus would do. He accepted everyone despite their faults and treated them like brothers and sisters. I believe that everyone has been my mother, father, brother, sister, friend, enemy, and teacher in a past life so I treat everyone I come in contact with the same way: with unconditional love. This doesn't happen overnight. Reflect on universal love and it doesn't matter what faith you are from: Christian, Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu. All religions have the same goal: fill the world with love and rid the world of hate. Peace and love
Fedup, I wish Christians would realize that converting people is not the purpose of their religion! It is to spread the word of love, of universal love, of divine love. Too bad they lost sight of the original goal. Peace and love
It's not at all "being a part time Christian", it is just being Christian. Period. Just because someone doesn't follow the whole Bible as if ti is fact doesn't mean they are not Christian. To be Christian you must follow the teachings of Jesus, not the teachings of the Bible. Hence CHRISTian as in Jesus CHRIST.
Not at all. As I said in another post, the New Testament basically out-phases the Old Testament. Therefore half the Bible is basically just there for reading and thinking about, not nesicarily to follow. I feel like I have to repeat myself multiple times so PLEASE LISTEN: To be CHRISTian you must follow CHRISTS teachings, NOT the BIBLE. HENCE the word "CHRIST" in "CHRIST"ian. It's not called Bibleianity or Godianity. They are not Bibleians or Godians, but CHRISTians.
