http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=458242&in_page_id=1770&ct=5 What're your opinions? I think it'd be cool if everyone was vegetarian- might be a nicer world- less animals under pain/less global warming etc.. Forcing people to go vegetarian sounds a bit harsh though? Though I don't agree with it surely everyone's entitled to change if THEY want to. I highly doubt the government would go through with it: but it's a good thought as to how our lifestyle's are affecting the planet. Discuss away
Sounds kinda extreme but I think I'd rather leave the country than go vegetarian. Or at least get myself a really good meat dealer! It's funny how folk within the governmemt think this might make a differance while at the same time they go extending airports and do very little to encourage greener transport on the roads.
The goverment can piss off if they think im going to be vegetarian, not a hope in hell of me not eating meat. If everyone turned veggie alot of animal species would die out proberly quite quickly, pigs for example we have no use for them apart from eating them.
Is this a reason to eat, or NOT to eat meat?????? Like, if we eat them all, no more farting in the farmyard.. Everybody encourages us to do all kinds of things.. I don't see this as being so different. Ok, it's maybe a little unnerving to think they might try to force it people who don't want to be vegatarian.. Smoking is clearly bad for you, but there's no evidence to suggest that eating meat is. And it IS only something They dreamed up..
This is only the Daily Mail, people! If you read between the lines it seems likely this 'leaked email' is regarding the possibility of "encouraging" people to "look into" their dietary habits and how they might affect the planet. It's not talking about forcing people to become vegetarians!
well its hardly news really I have seen this on the news24 agenda for several months hardly a day goes by where the government isnt trying to tell you meat products are bad for you. Government ministers have stated openly tyheir desire to see the meat industry more tightly regulated and some have even said on tv they think a vegetarian britain would be healthier One reason is that meat farms and dairy farms produse too much carbon emmissions and other greenhouse gasses This is just not news to me ! Of course it also means only the rich would get meat just like in the bad old days
I would certainly be in favour of some kind of meat rationing system. Humans were not designed (probably the wrong word there) to eat large quantities of meat at every meal, it's a relatively recent development in human history, it's extremely wasteful and destructive to the environment and quite possibly bad for health. If we're going to impose strict controls on how people use energy and transport for the sake of the greater good, it's quite sensible to clamp down on this wasteful and unnecessary over-use of resources as well.
Wiggy.. you're funny ^_^ And yes. I'm a vegetarian but if people want to eat meat still then they can if they want.. I wouldn't mind a vegetarian world but alas there's that stupid thing called free-will =[ but the amount modern day omnivores eat of meat is pretty awful for the planet for the animals and for themselves.
I'm all for it! There's nothing wrong with encouraging the nation to eat healthier. I'm a vegan so it doesn't bother me. It's not that I don't care about the animals, because I don't. You should all stopo eating meat and be like me!!!!
i get the best meat on soybean and alfalfa fields. the farmers get a certain number of landowner tags based on how much acreage they have to protect and the herd populations in that area. MAN do those tags get scooped up fast. but they gotta protect their crops. but it makes me wonder, if everyone were vegan, and more and more land was stolen to raise crops to support everyone's appetite, how would they deal with the animals that graze on the crops? you know, the only meat i've ever had trouble with is the mass produced stuf, because it's vicious on the environment. but the local ranchers graze their cows on scrubland where not much of anything grows.
But if we where all like you, you would change. There are some vegetarians who dont wat meat because its different not to eat it! if you get what i mean by that. So if the world turned to be veggie the people who wanted to be different and if that included what would they do next? I was veggie for a few months once, felt like shit for most of it, craved meat so i ate meat. Some people are veggie because of the animal welfare stuff behind it, they choose to not eat a chicken that has been kept in a cage with shit conditions,. fair enough thats up to you, but it really pisses me off when vegetarians moan about the way animals are being treated by they are doing anything about it!!!
I'm vegan, partly cause of the eco benefits, partly because it forces me to actually eat healthy foods. To be honest i couldn't give a shit about the animals, sounds bad, but i just don't. It would do the nation a lot of good, at least health wise, but i can't see it ever happening. Going veggie or vegan isn't something that other people can have much of a say in, it's a personal choice. As long as people have a balanced diet..
That was my first reaction. It does give a few mixed messages though: The change would need to be done "gently" because of a "risk of alienating the public", according to the document. However, it does recognise that it would be very difficult to win public support for such a move. Consequently, it says the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is looking to encourage a gradual change that would be more palatable to the general public. The e-mail states: "It will be a case of introducing this gently as there is a risk of alienating the public majority." In a consilatory note: The official goes on to say it is "unlikely" that the Environment Agency would ever suggest adopting a fully vegan lifestyle. So who are we to believe and what is the truth ?.
So what if they "suggest" a vegan lifestyle? Do you think people would actually do it? Doesn't seem to have worked with the whole fast food is bad for you thing.
I'm a vegan for medical reasons and I feel great for it! All I eat is vegetables. Just eat veggies for a week and feel the difference I've never touched meat, fish, egg, cheese or any other meat, seafood in my life. I get my vitamins on my £300 PKU coolers which I get free on the NHS. I'm special
BUT you shouldnt need vitamins if you where following a diet properly. A mate of mine takes all these vitamins and in thery you are doing worse by the planet by taking them, think of all the chemicals put it them, think of the wrapping they use, think of the animals they are tested on. At least if i have a chicken or pheasant or something i dont need wrapping!! Yeah I am talking total bollocks arent I, its highly amusing. You think this is bad you should see some of the poeple who know me, then get me to try and explain something to them!! thats funny cos they have no idea what im going on about
