THEY'RE NOT DOING ANOTHER SEASON OF SUGAR RUSH! :nopity: 16 March 2007 - Official: No Series Three It has been officially confirmed by Channel Four that there will be no third series of Sugar Rush. The news is part of a wider Channel 4 failure to meet its intended ambition of showing a major new drama in every month of 2008. It is understood that plans for a third and fourth series of the programme have been scrapped. A Channel 4 spokeswoman stated that 'there were never plans for a series three or four', saying 'it was concluded at end of the second series because we felt the girl's story had run its course'. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- "Channel Four is not commissioning another series of the award-winning drama series about young lesbians in Brighton. Sugar Rush, made by production company Shine, will not continue on the channel despite its popularity with viewers and critics alike. Last November Sugar Rush won an International Emmy in America and two Stonewall Awards for Broadcaster of the Year. Speaking exclusively to LoveGirls Johnny Capps, Sugar Rush producer and co-creator, said: "We were surprised and disappointed at Channel 4's decision not to recommission Sugar Rush, especially after its ratings and critical success. We certainly had lots of ideas of where to take the next series and it was sad not to be able to finish Kim and Sugar's story properly." He added the reason Channel 4 gave for failing to recommission the series was because the broadcaster "did not have a scheduling slot for it". A Channel 4 spokeswoman has been quoted as saying there were never plans for a third or fourth series of Sugar Rush, insisting: "It was concluded at end of the second series because we felt the girls' story had run its course." The second series ended with Sugar moving into the flat Kim shares with her new girlfriend Saint. Olivia Hallinan, the actress who played Kim, told LoveGirls she and the rest of the cast were very disappointed at the decision: "It is such a shame because we are all up for it." She added that even though she was initially daunted about playing a lesbian character, she soon found it rewarding. "Sugar Rush is important for young women who are lesbian or bi. I used to get so many letters from girls about the show because they could relate to it." (Taken from Love Girls)
Not that it will do much good.... here's a petition: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Save_Sugar_Rush/ Channel 4 have turned into proper bastards recently.
It's probably the only programme that I watched religiously. My ex used to get jealous when I watched it
I can see channel four doesn't listen to its viewers. After last night showing Diana's death, it is clear channel four have no integrity. Big Brother racism and Diana's death shown on tv despite the princes saying they were unhappy about it. Channel four need to be spoken to by Ofcom on a serious note regarding integrity and its viewers feelings. I admit channel four has always been a controversial channel. Remember Brass Eye? This latest stunt, no new series of Sugar rush is basically the tempest of everything channel four stand for with regard to customer, viewer relations. What do channel four care. They just care about the money.
I always felt guilty and sordid for watching it, and kinda drooling over Kim.. Oh you know what I mean  One more series should have given the show a proper send off.. But when you think about Friends, which I hated, and that people must have only watched it for the eye candy, just why couldn't Sugar Rush run for 10 series or more??
I wonder how many people refused to watch the Princess Diana programme? I wonder how many caved in to their "need" to see her last moments? I still wonder how a tv channel can becone so tabloid-minded as to think that people would REALLY want to watch this for the right reasons!
Mate, they're all fit! I'm a Saint fan...she's too cute, especially when you see the Kanji characters tattooed down her spine!
Was is not a novel though?? Maybe that's why they won't make a new one? In the top 5 best series ever commissioned. Evarrrrr! There's rumours of a new one-off as well... And for those who never saw it the first time around PAEDOGEDDON!!! One of the best satirical programmes ever made...
I think the first series was based on the novel, the second took the characters and expanded on it. I started watching in the hope of some lesbo love action and the gorgeous Olivia Hallinan, but kept watching because it was actually a really good programme.
Channel four knew that curiousity would set in. They merely played on people's curiousity to get in viewer ratings. Channel four are still pretty much using the same tactics that they have used when they did a spin on the Bulger case 14 years ago.
