why is there such sad and lonely and strange images in the world, help breaxeggs uses this as a sig, but I think it is too sick and perhaps a mod should ask him to tone it down - help - because I find such things to sad to the point of tears - help help help I cannot bear this image I am too human to understand or tollerate it - i am gonna fuckin flip if the mods dont ban that image
I doubt a mod could ban a photo, it's not a pleasant one at all, and I agree with you, I can't much get my head around it either and it saddens me, but you'll probably just have to browse past it.
Are you using Firefox? It can block images from sites if you set it to. I think Internet Explorer might have something similar, but I'm not sure.
I'm talking to Ming. If breaxeggs won't change his sig (actually Ming, did you talk to him/her about it?) and the mods can't/won't remove it, his best alternative is to block the image host.
Photo Eddie Adams/AP With North Vietnam's Tet Offensive beginning, Nguyen Ngoc Loan, South Vietnam's national police chief, was doing all he could to keep Viet Cong guerrillas from Saigon. As Loan executed a prisoner who was said to be a Viet Cong captain, AP photographer Eddie Adams opened the shutter. Adams won a Pulitzer Prize for a picture that, as much as any, turned public opinion against the war. Adams felt that many misinterpreted the scene, and when told in 1998 that the immigrant Loan had died of cancer at his home in Burke, Va., he said, http://www.cs.brown.edu/courses/cs024/imagesHistoric.html#06.jpg “ The general killed the Viet Cong; I killed the general with my camera. Still photographs are the most powerful weapon in the world. People believe them, but photographs do lie, even without manipulation. They are only half-truths...What the photograph didn't say was, 'What would you do if you were the general at that time and place on that hot day, and you caught the so-called bad guy after he blew away one, two or three American soldiers?' How do you know you wouldn't have pulled the trigger yourself? ” Eddie Adams later apologized in person to General Nguyễn and his family for the damage it did to his reputation. When General Nguyễn died, Adams praised him as a hero of a just cause: “ The guy was a hero. America should be crying. I just hate to see him go this way, without people knowing anything about him.[2] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nguyễn_Ngọc_Loan
This forum is a free forum and people are at liberty to do what they like within the T and Cs of this forum. I don't see nothing wrong with the above image. Nothing we haven't seen on the News. Pretty common really.
Looking at the forum guidelines, I could put Tubgirl in my sig and still be within the rules. There's a grey area that the guidelines don't cover.
Everything has a grey area. I prefer to think of it as a blindspot. I think everyone is entitled to any signature in the post. This is a free forum within the terms and conditions. Freedom is the main key on this forum. Lets not contradict the constitution.
I think you're missing the point I was making. While the forum guidelines don't prohibit such an image, other members' sensitivities towards certain things should be considered. I'm not advocating moderator action, hence why I suggested Ming blocks the image host or as a word with the sig owner. There are sections of beaches where dogs are allowed to roam and do their business. If you were sunbathing and I let my dog shit on your chest, would you say "fuck it, it's not against the law"? (I know there's probably a section of law covering that already, but let's be hypothetical)
The image which is causing ruffled feathers is merely a window into reality. Perhaps a Spoiler function would be best for powerful images?
Another forum I go on (Something Awful, for any fellow readers) has "Not Work Safe" and "Not Mind Safe" tags for risky images. The spoiler idea is a good 'un, it's just a case of getting people to use 'em
