Today I went with my girlfriend to her friends place so we could go shopping. When we got there we sat down and her friend asked me where my shoes were. I replied they were at home and I was going barefoot today. We all walked to the shopping centre, my girlfriend her friend in comfortable shoes and myself barefooted. When we got there my girlfriend's friend pointed out that there was a sign at the entrance saying "Footwear and top minimum dress standard" but I said don't worry I always go barefoot into shopping centres. We walked around all the shops for several hours, checking out all the clothing shops my girlfriend was interested in. "How are your bare feet, Honey?" my girlfriend asked me as we were leaving, "Not sore are they?" "No, they feel fine." I said, enjoying having no shoes on as usual. When we got back to her friends house I put my bare feet up on the coffee table to relax and my girlfriend's friend looked at my bare soles with interest. "Wow! Your feet are so black, even your toes!" she said, checking out my grubby soles. "Well, I was barefooted all day." I replied, "The soles of my feet picked up a lot of dirt and grease from the ground." "Its so amazing how much dirt collected on your feet." she said, "They look really nice though, it kinds of suits the feet to have them dirty like that." "I love rubbing his feet when they are dirty, it's much better than when they are clean." my girlfriend agreed. I enjoyed having my dirty feet as a topic of conversation!
Heh, that's awesome. You know something I have noticed whilst surfing this forum. It's the real difference between opinions amongst people on being barefoot in public. For example... Over here (UK, or at least in Edinburgh), There aren't really stores or shops with signs like that. Nobody really cares. You get some stares but nothing big. I dunno why there's such a difference of attitudes between here and the states. I could probably meet the Queen barefoot.
remember all the shit that the media, especially fox new, from when a college female sports team (forgot sport and team) met with bush and they wore sandals, how it was said they disrespected bush and the white house. for whatever reason, the US is really anal about barefeet. more likely the US is really anal about image. Yanno, you gotta have the best and stay ahead of your neighbors, "keeping up with the Jones or keeping ahead of them" . going barefoot goes against the gotta get ahead and image status that the US has become. too many paris hilton fashion wannabe types.
Oh, yeah. I know how you feel. I mean, I try not to conform to fashions and make my own outta alternitives. (EG: instead of Windows XP or Vista, I use Ubuntu Linux). I don't really like the idea of keeping up with the Jones. I believe that once of conform to that mantra you loose your what makes you, you. If I met the Queen or the Prime Minister barefoot, it'll just be seen as a cultural thing or a lifestyle choice, because over here we're a bit more used to cultural, religious or lifestyle differences as we are used to multiculturalism. I mean the Queen and the PM visits Mosques, Temples, Churches, LGBT Schemes...You name it.
