To be honest, I have heard conflicting evidence on that one. Most people tend to feel that it's better to be safe than sorry. But if the only other option you have is prescriptions... I think I'd probably find a good herbalist or someone versed in alternate medicine & get their opinion on your situation. love, mom
Well, after everything I just said against alcohol, you guys are gonna freak about this, but it is my personal belief that there is nothing wrong with injesting weed while you are pregnant. There are problems associated with smoking anything. But injesting by eating, drinking tea, or any other way you can think of besides smoking will not hurt your baby. There is some small amount of research that says that weed can alter the sperm making it more difficult to become pregnant, but I'm not sure how valid this is. Like I said before, I have worked in addictions for nine years. Part of my job was to teach the dangers of drug use. I refused to teach anything about weed because in all of my research I could not find anything wrong with it. The danger that you will find from smoking weed is if you mention it to your doctor, you are at risk of losing your child to the state. Also, if you give birth in a hospital you run the risk of both you and your baby being drug tested without your knowledge or consent. This happens more often if you are poor, inner city, single, receiving welfare, or a woman of color. But it can happen to anyone at any time. They don't need a reason to test you. Some hospitals test everyone routinely. You may be planning on a home birth, but complications can send you to a hospital and then it's too late to cleanse your body. The herb stays in the fat cells of your body and can be detected up to 45 days after you stop using depending on the amount of fat you carry. And even though it's legal by state law for you to smoke, a hardass can invoke federal law which says it is not legal. I would be ware and like another poster said, try to find another method of pain relief, at least for the last couple of months. I love weed. I wash my hair with it, it cook with it (seeds that is), I moisturize with it, I wear it, I dress my child in it, I write on it, I don't smoke it and won't until my son is 18 and I don't have to worry about some hardass taking my baby away from me because of it. weed - tea?!? I'm just learning about hemp in things other than rope and the extent of my knowledge of any other sort of weed use is practically nonexistant. Would something like this be legal in MN?!? If so, please do tell! love, mom
Tea, as in using the marijuana leaves to make tea with is not legal in any state except those few states that allow medical marijuana. Weed in spaghetti sauce is also not legal except in those few states. And even in those states it is not legal because of federal law that supercedes state law. However, using hemp seeds or hemp seed oil in cooking is legal in every state. Hemp seed oil is better than flax seed oil for many of the essential fatty acids, omega 3's I think they are. There is virtually no THC in hemp seed oil. Hemp is a wonderful fabric which is easier to grow than cotton and makes a stronger fabric whether for robe, twine, or woven or knit into sheets of fabric. Hemp is in many beauty or cosmetic items, makes a great shampoo and has so many many other uses. There is even a hemp milk on the market now. Medically speaking for nausea or pain relief it is second to none. Also for helping people who have no appetite due to chemotheraphy meds. It makes great writing paper. They are even using it to finish cars with. I can not say enough good things about this wonderful plant. However, as long as I am at risk of losing my son I will not use it in any way that is illegal. I think it is rediculous that you can lose your child or go to prison for 99 years for possession of a small amount of weed. It's a naturally occuring herb that needs to be used for anything it can be used for. Even the first American flag that Betsy Ross sewed by hand was made from hemp. Kathi
I know someone who smoked throughout her pregnancy and her baby turned out fine. He is now 22. I would say continue to smoke because it's better than your meds.like others said, be careful about hospitals.
Try cooking and eating the marijuana. It takes less herb for a longer effect, plus there are no harmful carcinogens from smoke, since you're not smoking it! But it has to be cooked for the THC to activate. And follow Dakota's Mom's advice. When I gave birth (in a hospital, unplanned transfer due to prolonged labour with broken waters), they tested my daughter for marijuana. I was very lucky that nothing was found. And it's a shame that thoughtful parents have their children taken away for doing something that's safer for their babies than pharmaceutical drugs, to medicate pain.
