It seems the UK forums are starting to turn into every other forum on these boards.
You make a point and instead of debating things and people agreeing or disagreeing, they start jumping on you and making personal attacks.

    How very sad :nopity:

I guess it's time to set up camp in the Asian forums. :)

I always agree or disagree and try and be constructive...but because im usually so passionate it gets mistaken for "personal attacks", even though i never actually make offensive remarks about the person in question, i only ever question their views

It becomes frustrating after a while. I get this "slow down" "dont be so quick to judge" "stop preaching" bullshit thrown at me, when i wasnt doing anything of the sort, i was just giving my opinion on the subject, which was asked for in the first place!

Im sure many do make personal comments, but i never do...anyway, sorry to hear the forums becoming like that, nay. And sorry for my rant:)

You got insulted by a 17 year old from America, Nay; it's hardly anything to be concerned about in this forum.

    Was it me??

I'm very sorry if I hurt your feelings by disagreeing with your opinions, it's a shame we don't all think the same, isn't it?... I didn't make any personal attacks aimed at you just aimed at the Daily Mail reading populace, if you quote them you leave yourself open to flak IMO, nothing by them can be taken seriously.

Apologies if you felt I was attacking you individually, that was not meant to be my intention by any means.

No, I think it was Peterness. Sal had to delete a comment that counted as a personal attack.

By all means, disagree. That's what having a debate is all about isn't it?

You should take into account though, that things people say may not necessarily be their opinion. I find it boring if I read through a thread that could be debated, but everyone just expresses the same opinion. I find it's always good to raise some points that haven't been taken into consideration.

Ok I can understand one might want to put across the other side and maybe play devil's advocate a bit but I personally wouldn't say something that wasn't my opinion... Just adds confusion to thh matter...

Yup, still dropping liquid lsd every weekend and smoking crack every day. Rinsing out the banging acid techno, week in, week out to all my adoring fans... And ting.

I understand what you're saying, but I just think that it makes a better debate.

I have noticed that. I think this is nothing really to worry about. Continue expressing an opinion as you would and if someone gets too inflammatory or start hurling missiles. You can always use the alert function. I don't think it has been used for ages. Some people do hurl abuse when views run contrary to their own. Best not respond to their abuse. Sometimes putting in a bit of humour can suddenly defuse a situation.

fountains of nay, I thought, from quite a few right-wing things you've posted that you might be a closet conservative that likes hippy fashion.
Now I realise you're playing devil's advocate in order to foster debate..
    ..(I hope) :)

As for fashion...I don't follow it. I wear what is comfortable and reflects me.

As for the other, I've already explained myself.

But this is exactly what I mean, if it suits with everyone else you're all fine with it, but if you say something that's just sooooooo not hippy or whatever, you flame people for it. It's out of order, especially as you consider yourselves to be openminded. A debate is for people to express all sides of an argument, not just the bits you agree with.

Would you enter a lions den and not expect to get eaten ?

If ones courts controvosy one shouldn't complain if people become controversial.

Any opinion expressed in a public space is open to debate and attack. As long as people continue to attack the idea and not the person, then that's fine. It just encourages a stronger defence....
