I'm considering ordering this kit from Dread Head HQ. Is it really worth it, is just what i'm wondering? It comes with instructions and all the jazz, but i've heard people with strong opinions about wax. Should i be using the wax if i'm getting this kit? Can i just backcomb it, and shy away from the wax or something? PS. still not sure on the dreadies, but i'm seriously considering them!
egh. no. don't waste your money. DEFINITELY stay away from wax. I can vouch for that. I used it the first time around when I had dreads and it was a nightmare. get yourself a nice bottle of dr. bronner's (or bar, whatever you prefer), you can make spray "locking accelerator" with water, salt and lemon juice, and if you want a good comb for backcombing, get yourself to the pet shop and buy a flea comb for five or ten bucks. They work great. good luck on yer dread journey, if you wind up doin it
I wouldn't waste money on the kit. Just backcomb using a metal comb (unused flea combs work great and only cost $2). AVOID WAX! I sometimes use knottyboys tropical locking gel (doesn't leave a residue) but salt water or aloe works just as well. And for washing I suggest Dr. Bronners. lol just read what the person above me wrote. Basically I agree with everything they said.
Rubberbands and Wax are both not worth the trouble for a start. The comb you can get a flea one from a pets store for a few quid. The accelerator is just Sea Salt, Lemon Juice and water.. So it's really not worth the money!! Just accquire all the stuff yourself
Ugh i didnt listen to the fine folks here and I put wax in my hair, and it was a HUGE hassle I really don't recommend it! But now what I do recommend is beanies and touques yay canada! Im wearing a red and white Esso gas touque from the winter of like '73 and its the shit! Keeps your dreads nice and formed
ahaha fuckin a, man. and i toooootally agree with the poster who said no rubber bands. i intended to make a point about that when i first replied, but.. forgot you know how it is.
eurgh. leave the DHHQ stuff alone. it's bad for you, all harsh chemicals, it won't do you any good. the bands aren't worth the trouble, just try back-combing with your fingers or buy a metal flea comb if you like, go crazy and use Dr Bronner's, it's brilliant. enjoy yourself!
Dreadhead HQ does have some good advice (clockwork rubbing, lice advice), But never, EVER, buy from them or take advice that involves wax.
agree on the wax. i got wax in mine =( now after 3 months i still struggle to get it out, but it is inside the dread =( at least it is geting a little bit better every shower
