Unknown to many, the psychedelic use and resulting consciousness shift is what literally spawned what we on this forum call "hippie". This "psychedelic consciousness", closely resembling the "Samadhi" or transcendent states of the Yogic or Tantric paradigm connected us (us hippies, or 'Freaks', as we affectionately came to call ourselves) to a view of reality, social, geophysical, and universal, that was totally interconnected in an omniscient manner. Thus we literally experienced as a mass subjective and objective culture the oneness of existence as one species, part of the earth and all other life. This experience of oneness was God, and is responsible for the "Love Culture" aspect that hippie was so known for. The flip side of this realization was the new awareness of how limited religious, or in our country's case, "Biblical", understanding or viewing reality, especially spiritual reality, was. Therefore, hippie with it's mass proliferation of a higher spiritual understanding, if not only in the early years, is directly responsible for any contrary view to what Bible thinkers(not necessarily Jesus thinkers) see as the role of the earth in our lives.
Now, the recently deceased Jerry Falwell made the comment not too long ago, that we humans can not possibly harm the earth or its environment. Really? The reason he and other preachers say this is because to think we can't keep making, driving and buying more and more cars and whatever, detracts from the monetary prosperity message that has been the main basis of evangelical teachings. Simply put, all the Church goers can't get "theirs" if we are killing the planet with our fossil fuel culture. So with the reality of the poles melting and other earth changes blatantly verifed, it is quite obvious that they are disconnected from reality, physical, spiritual, and other wise. This is the danger of adhering to religious domga despite all else. Look at the creationists museum in Kentucky. It wasn't too long ago that all evangelicals dismissed dinosaur skeletons as deliberate inventions of evil scientists. With more and more of dinosaur skeletons popping up, the preachers realized they couldn't get away with that, so they decided to incorporate them into the creation story.
So here we are as the great United States, insisting on hanging onto the mythological structure of the Old Testament, refusing to join other countries with new pollution changes, and destroying the earth and killing everyone else on it in the process, all because it would be evil to not accept what "modern interpretors" of the scripture say it says.
The reality here is that Genesis is actual metaphor, and is intended by God to be so. The sooner they and everyone else realize this, the better off we all are. You can' take reality and force it into the Bible or any other book, what you do on the other hand is utilize what truths it does contain and incorporate them into a higher spiritual wisdom base.
There is divine truth in the Bible, but it is not the written code of existence. There is a bigger thing going on here than us, than America, than planet earth. You can't percieve ultimate reality through simply a book, or even the mind. Instead, you must go through a genuine transformation of consciousness. The hippies did this, and they did this with LSD. But, LSD is only a key to the divine door, once at the door step, another method must be used to walk on through it.

Nice post! I agree with almost everything you said, although I think drugs are an optional choice; not everyone can handle bare reality! Baby steps...

    Peace and love

Hey, just love everything you said, this is pretty much how my thoughts go on the subject of God and Man. It was a lengthy post, but I hope many people will apply their concentration to reading it all the way through, it is inspirational and well thought out.

Freewheeling Franklin wonders if you are still on acid? What is he meaning?
It sounds like he was trying to explain something about your posts content.?

The content most certainly reflects the mind of a person who must maintain a pretty constant level of higher consciousness in thoughts and planetary awareness.

    Thank you for sharing !

    His point is simple:

    1) Drugs aren't bad.
    2) Drugs can be used as a jumping point to deeper spiritual awareness.
    3) Popular culture is scared to shit that they can't control it.

Thanks for all of your responses. Its strange how some people see the initials LSD and "DRUGS-DRUGS-DRUGS" jumps to the forefront of their mind. As I emphasized at the end of the thread, LSD, as all psychedelics, are a key to the door. Once through the door another means of completing the consciousness transition must be used, such as Kundalini Yoga. It is important to know that psychedelics are in a class by themselves, and are not destructive when used properly by the right person. There are many accounts of LSD experiences either revealing God to the user or healing the user from alcoholism, in the late fifties and early sixties, long before the hippies came along. So psychedelics are clearly instead consciousness expanding and life revealing substances "when used correctly for these types of goals".
Notice I said "consciousness" here, transcendent or cosmic consciousness, a genuine higher subjective state of transcendental consciousness, and this is what scriptural study alone, especially western scriptural study of books like the OLd Testament, Dead Sea Scrolls or whatever "do not give you." I want to strongly reiterate here that Jesus, on the other hand, did directly teach the goal of achieving a transcendent inner state, when in Luke Ch.17, vs.20-23 he declared the kingdom of Heaven is within.
Further, the evangelical culture is far from the popular culture; they have a strong mis-directed spiritual base, right now at least, and have affected the environmental so as to guarantee global warming continued on at least until now or beyond. They hardly represent Jesus's stance with their glaring materialism. When you stop to think that here we have these guys who are supposed to be the spiritual leaders of our country, hanging onto their mis-construed desire trip they have milked out of Jesus's teachings of self sacrifice, and maybe destroying the earth in the process, this hippie clearly understands that it won't be long before Lord Shiva busts the ass of the good old U.S. of A. with some good ole environmental Karma.
Simply put, it is essential that we as a country and culture revert back to a spiritual system that will give us God Consciousness and therefore the spiritual vision that is not so humanocentric as western religions are, so that we can get this planet healing and back to welcoming the life on it, it has spawned. We hippies almost did it one time long ago, its time to get the consciousness back and do it again.
