    What's up with clowns?

Where do they come from, specifically what culture, and what was their role originally in that culture.

Personally, i don't understand clowns, but they seem to be pure evil because they only deal with kids. Me, I never really felt the fear of clowns, but I've met some people who have some serious phobias about clowns, really serious. I used to know a girl, she was about 14 at the time, not too young. She would refuse to be anywhere near a clown, and should start having a panic attack if she by chance saw one.

Anyone here who is scared of them please explain why.

Clowns are funny. Now that is some good American humor right there, much better than that 'Carrot Top' or that George Carlin.

Clowns came about in the middle ages when very ugly people came up with the idea of painting themselves and entertaining others as a means of finally getting a little eye contact. Unfortunately, they found that while they did make some social progress and a little cash, it wasnt enough to get normal people to have sex with them. So, they started having large orgies in little tiny cars instead.
