Well, if your body isn't extremely sensitive, try paper clips -- you can bend them into all kinds of shapes, they are cheap, they come in colors, they are nonporous (less likely to cause infection), and they can get as wide as 14 gauge (like mine) without modification.
My piercing guy (who is a do-it-himselfer and respects broke people) even advised that you can wrap some electrical tape around paper clips to make them even a little wider. Just make sure to keep it clean, like you would any other piercing jewelry.

Also, you can buy (or otherwise obtain) slightly wider posts and tapers at a lot of different accessory stores without having the guys (or gals) put them in for you.
But if you stretch your ears a little first, and go into a licensed tattoo parlor, you can get a jump start and go straight for 10 or maybe even 8 gauge jewelry right away and most places will put them in for free if you do.
Shop around -- I found a really helpful shop that sells handmade glass plugs and eyelets for as little as $20 a pair, with free "installation", and most places charge that much even for rings.

Start with healed normal ear pierings. You can wrap teflon tape or electrical tape around the post of the stud, and gradually gauge out you ears. There is no "fast" way to strectch unless you want scarr tissue and holes that look like buttholes. I would do only a wrap or two at a time and wait 5 days between wraps. Basicaly, the stretched piercing should feel tight, not painful.

NEway, just be careful and realize that it is alot cheaper to avoid problems than deal withthem

yeah thats fine. holes look like buttholes when there is too much scar tissue. they look gross when you take the jewellery out and probably wont return to their original size.

Just say "no" to butthole lobes.

And, yes, when you see one, you'll know whhat we're talking about. Well stretched holes will look nice and smooth.

    Peace

I've never been in a studio in my life. I didn't know you were supposed to go to one to stretch.
