ok this is what I take to a festival a two man dome tent not a expensive model something like a eurohike is fine a thermarest mat to lie on these are expensive and you can make do with a kip mat ,I bought my thermarest off ebay a sleeping bag I take a arctic british army sleeping bag which is really to big and bulky but mighty comfy but I could take a down bag if i thought it would be really hot I take a goretex jacket and trousers thats because I like to be prepared for really bad weather about 3-4 pairs of socks a small torch mobile phone and charger and spare batterys razor soap toothbrush a towel 2-3 pairs of trousers no jeans as they take a long time to dry out , british army combats are good or hiking trousers like rohans 2-3 tee shirts maybe 2 shirts a jumper and underware I now take a trangia cookset with kettle and plate cup and cutlery set some coffee and spiced tea , some tea light candles toilet paper I may take food things like rice dont take up much room and you could have say a small tin of tuna or corn on the cob and you have the basis of a meal all of this I can usually get in one bergan rucksack although the arctic sleepin bag might not fit so I may carry that seperate . it takes a bit of thinking how to pack all this stuff basically start with the big items in the main compartment thats the tent and sleeping bag then you put your clothes in the gaps in the main compartment . the smaller items go in the side pockets and ther water proofs at the top of the main compartment so you can get to them easy . you want to be able to walk to the festival in a teeshirt with all your gear stowed . foot wear you can wear walking boots or wellies or sandels all have their good point but I dont think just taking wellies is a good idea personally I take lightweight walking boots and may take wellies if things get really bad a couple of strong black bin liners are handy if its wet to wrap up wet stuff suntan cream anyway any tips from other people ? oh a camera and money and bears and swiss army penknife these I never take off my person the swiss army penknife may be dodgy but its the only way I have for opening tin cans I have .....oh large tin of creamed rice
food wise i find oranges and apples are very good. theyre refreshing and you can carry them about. a bottle to refill so you dont have to waste plastic and spend a fortune buying bottled water lots of socks - more than a day a pair incase of rain cereal bars are goo dand filling!
I usually take a tent, a sleeping bag, 3 shirts, 3 trousers, shoes, boots, wellies, a towel...And drugs. ...Yeah, that's it...Perhaps I should take more this year?
well it depends where you buy them Ive got all my rucksacks from carboot sales and never paid more than £10 for even good quality rucksacks that originally cost £100-200 if you go to a big bootsale your bound to find a few rucksacks they have threads of cheap stuff for sale on glastonbury forum http://forums.virtualfestivals.com/forums/index.php?showforum=11 the other option is ask to borrow them off family and friends lots of people have rucksacks they dont use much .
http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/news.aspx?id=478 dont bring loo roll to glastonbury festival they give you free loo roll
Damn the line ups are pretty sweet, tons of bands I would love to see. I'm so jealous! (sorry unrelated, just say from that link)
For Glastonbury wellies are a must, one day of rain and the area at the bottom of the valley around the stages turns into a giant paddling pool. A second pair of trousers came in very handy too, it's no fun putting on soaking wet / covered in mud ones! I try and take all my own food because I'm bloody cheap! So, plenty of soups, pot noodles and fruit. Nuts!
I think there's a no glass policy? So if they find them they will confiscate them. Decant them into plastic bottles (much lighter anyway) or take a wine box?
I only have a small backpack (a veteran of many festivals, though it's knackered now) and can't fit a sleeping bag or tent into it. I unhook the shoulder straps then thread 'em through the sleeping bag case's own shoulder straps, do the same with the tent then hook 'em back up. Still easy to carry, still two hands free. Murder on your shoulders though.
Chocolate It's an addiction really, I'm always stocked. You have to be well stocked for a festival though. Handy, filling, sugar-filled and yummy. Crisps are good too I find, they help with the... Crate of beer I think you should take. It's probably the heaviest piece of kit, but if you're arms are free you can dedicate those to the beer (doubles as a seat when you need a rest). I usually take a hold-all as well as a backpack and carry them loose in that. Vodka Oh and I would be without... :worthy: Spare tent pegs, bright guy ropes, duct tape!
Ooo! Books! Need to remember to take a couple of books. I've already got mine: Big Sur - Jack Kerouac AND Tropic of Cancer - Henry Miller.
