With all respect given to your point of view; capitalism has nothing but brought poverty, poor education, wars, hate, individualism, confusion, greed, corporations, ... the list could go on. I in no way support something that is that deterimental to society not to mention the enviornment.
It's surprising how many equate free enterprise with capitalism. Originally free enterprise was the building block of what was a willing gathering of free individuals together to make up individual communities, and individual states, and finally a country of individuals - Ahh the concept was great Greed made free enterprise, capitalism; and for the sake of money and power; control of the freedoms was either not far behind, or was ahead of, or at the same time - for greed dis-empowers. For those that have and hold - the takers, must protect what they've taken from others to their own, and keep the others from getting it back - and the lines of power are drawn Any community addresses this challenge and tries to make sure a balance ensues and power and greediness are held in control. .....at least by way of lip service, if not in fact. Some communities are into power trips for the "ruling' elite - but by and large this is unusual, and those communities that are out of balance tend to isolate themselves to keep their "faithful" from seeing another Way One of the reasons intentional community or community came to by and large replace the term commune was the mistakes commonly assumed by the ignorant that all intentional communities were by definition communists. Communism has never been tried in any governing structure; the word speaks for itself - what has come from the ideal has come to a power struggle of elitist; whether they are of the "party" or moneyed class. Totalitarianism and bureaucracies are are not free enterprise nor communism...but those who accept the programs given out to the masses to maintain ignorance and control accept the labeling; they are the sheep, willing to accept information given, without first finding out whether it is based on truth..... funny how the hippies abhorred control ..in many ways foreshadowing the anarchists of today. Course then the hippies were grouped together and defined - and called hippies only by those outside of the movement....ha back in the daze I was often asked with a twinkle in the eye of the asker if I was a hippie - hell no just another individual seeking answers and trying to find my Being....and to thine own Self Be True love you Namaste
True that--as does bluesafire. These are the folks that would bring out the best in those around them--commune or not.
I spent the first half of my childhood in a communist country and know first-hand what the day-to-day life experience is like of that lofty concept called communism. And I've learned that whether it's called communism or capitalism or socialism or whatever ism... it really doesn't matter. Because the truth is that what drives any group is the awareness that lies in the heart of the individuals that comprise that group, and however you slice, dice and define the outer form of the group, as noble as some of those definitions may sound, the real test is in the day to day manifestation. And the manifestation can only be based on one of two things, peace or lack of peace, however the "lack of peace" may be expressed. I've noticed that many people try to evoke a certain energy by reconfiguring the definition and description of the group. "We will call ourselves 'this' and stand for 'that' and that'll make us 'whatever'". But when the inner awareness doesn't change then the outer manifestation will always lead back to lack of peace, no matter what the original intention may have been. There's only one thing that's important: the inner state. And then once that is in balance (i.e. peaceful) then it really doesn't matter what group one finds themselves in... because that one will carry peace with him or her everywhere and manifest it.
I have been away for a long time and just got back from spending 2 yrs travelling from the north to the south of the Amazon. It was truely an experience to see how the different tribes of the Amazon live and work together. I would call a lot of the tribes individual type communes. They all live and work for the good of the tribe. The elders are respected and revered for their knowledge and advice. Dont get me wrong, they have a hard life but man are they a happy bunch. The play and have fun just like everybody else. The only reason I am informing all on this forum because Oldwolf has been around for a long time and he and I spoke many time and I got to tell you, Oldwolf, It was great to be around tribes like that. It reminded me a lot of the old communes of the 60 and 70's and of the ideals we believed in during the good old hippy days. As soon as I take care of some business here, I will be going back to spend more time with a lot of friends there. It was good to see an old friend like Oldwolf still around. Listen to him, my friends, he speaks truthfully and with lots of knowledge. Avgreg also known as Moose.
