Can you grind shrooms up and smoke them? Or mix them with tobacco or some other substance and smoke them? The only reason I ask is I've been reading Carlos Castaneda's "The lessons of Don Juan" series, and in one of the books, (which is a real account) they smoke a mix of different plants and mushrooms. Does this make sense? I'm really considering trying some shrooms this summer, and just trying to figure out the best way to take them. Oh, one more question. Would it be all right to take shrooms alone your first time? Or would it be safer to have someone there? I'm curious because I want this to be a spiritual journey, and not just a, "lets get fucked up" kind of thing.
The psilocybin is destroyed at high temps, as far as I know, so I wouldn't smoke shrooms. I think they were probably talking about amanitas in those stories. As far as taking them alone for your first time.....it depends on what reservations you have about the trip. If you are scared/worried/nervous in any way, then I wouldn't do it. If you are feeling confident about it and are not taking a high dose, then do it alone if you feel comfy. It all depends on you. Although, since you are asking, it would seem to me that you don't feel very comfy with the idea, in which case, I would suggest a sitter.
I read somewhere that the Don Juan stories might have been partially or wholly fabricated, so I don't know whether to trust them. I wouldn't try to smoke mushrooms, it just seems like a waste. Just eat them, its the tried and true method. As for taking them alone for your first time, I would recommend against it, unless you are experienced with psychedelics. You should always treat them with respect, and have experienced people there with you in case you start having problems. Different people react in different ways, so test out the waters with a friend before you even think about doing it alone. EDIT: Amanita Muscaria is that red capped mushroom with the white spots. It is also hallucinogenic, but it has different compounds in it. I've never messed around with these, I'd recommend looking at the erowid page on them.
Alright, thanks for the responses. I definatley want to treat this substance with the respect it deserves. Like I said, I don't want this to be a "lets do drugs just to get fucked up" kind of thing. That just doesn't jive with me.
Its pretty widely accepted that the Castaneda books are wholly or at least partially fabricated. But to me what's important about them is the story and the wisdom at their essence (at least the first three). Here is a link to a great series of articles related to this dispute about Don Juan and the books:http://wanderling.tripod.com/castaneda.html The thing about Don Juan's smoking mix, you'll remember, is that the part that was mushrooms was already a fine powder. This part wasn't actually smoked but when the pipe was inhaled from the powder was pulled through with the smoke. The powder was ingested probably when it mixed with saliva. I doubt that these mushrooms were Amanitas, these stories take place in areas of southwest U.S. and Mexico which would make me think they were psilocybin mushrooms. If your intent is to approach mushrooms reverently and with some background knowledge i would consult the audio recordings of Terence McKenna. You can find hours and hours of them for free online. Here are a few links if you're interested. http://www.futurehi.net/media.html http://www.secondattention.org/main/media.aspx http://www.matrixmasters.com/podcasts/ One of the biggest dangers in exploring psychedelics is not knowing enough about them and about yourself. Another danger is thinking you know something about them or have found out something that isn't true. So be careful and go slow, do some homework
Nice man. I've read the first 3, but now I’m re-reading Journey to Ixtlan in preparation of reading the 4th one. I've read a lot of articles about how the books aren't true, but I just don't know. Some of the discrepancies seem so...idk. What was the motivation? As far as the discrepancies go, all the author would have had to do is go back to his first books and read what he put, and copy that. The lack of continuity almost makes it more realistic...I know that doesn't make sense, but then again I don't always. But if he was trying to fool the public, he would have covered those holes, instead of leaving them.
Does anybody know what reishi mushrooms are? I have a tea that is made out of the it is like a red powder It is supposed to be used for medcinal reasons and to boost the immune system does anyone know any more about them?
I remember reading something about them in one of Paul Stamets' books, but that was a while ago. This link should help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lingzhi
we stole some of my freinds moms weed and it had these white and red chunks in it and we thought they were mush rooms and we smoked it and each ate a little of the chunks and i noticed when i would look at an object it would plaster its color onto the wall or object behind it and it was all neon...and a few other things happend that made me know i was on shrooms but his mom is extremley experiend so i cant imagine she would put it in there if it dident work but some one should try it for sure...but with all the more we ate i dont think i should have tripped but i am only 14 so i think some one would have to test this to see for sure.
An in between smart and stupid question. The main active ingreediants, like what was said, burns up at high temperatures. It is still possible to smoke magic mushrooms, but it would take a lot more to have the same effects from smoking than ingestion. Smoking them is also extremely bad for your eyes and lungs because of the mushroom spores. My advice: munch them, never smoke them! Have a good one!
