I have heard that a guru will appear when the guru and you are ready for each other. Are there any other things that affect when and if you find a guru? I am beginning to see the need for a guru in my spiritual life. I feel I am so close to reaching something, but I do not know what that something is.

    Peace and love

the best advice that I could give would be: Study teachings from as many teachers as you can, when you find the one that fits you the best, try to get closer to that teacher.
I'm kinda in the process of getting closer to H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche
I found his teachings on youtube and I've been reading and watching every one of them on his personal site.
    I'd suggest checking it out

Do a web search on the subject of your fascination and when teachings will be given, then make plans to attend. For instance, next week in Alameda California at Orgyen Dorge Den is being given the whole Dudjom Tersar, or New treasures of Dudjom who was an awesome Treasure Revealer of the Nyingma Buddhist tradition.
