If it were in a disrespectful tone of voice, I'd stop whatever it was I was doing, give a look of irritation and say simply: "Excuse me?" If they were to repeat themselves, I'd probably say "And just who exactly do you think you are?"

If it were in a playful tone, I'd say whatever fit my mood at the moment.

it was given by some actor or something, i forget the name, trying to get through/past, the lines waiting to get in to see something.

i don't remember all the details, but it was someone fairly well known at the time.

depends on the context and the occasion of course.
if you've inadvertantly done something inconsiderate, the most polite, and probably most sensable thing to do is appologise, but if its a situation where you have every reason to believe you are being challanged for doing the right and honest thing, then really the appropreate answer then becomes; "just who or what in the hell, do i, or anyone else, need to be."

(just make damd sure you really ARE in the right, and NOT screwing someone else over in the proccess!)
