Well i was going for natural dreads but nothing was really happening and my hair was probably too short so i went ahead and backcombed. This would be the second backcombing since the first time i did it they get ripped apart from 3 and half hours driving up to the lake with all the windows down and about 10 hours on a wave runner. So i went ahead and did them again like 3 days ago and im gonna try and be a little more gentle on them so they have time to knot up

One thing that I do to help them knot up is backcomb and then rip the dread a few times to pull the knot up to the root. I do this several times. Then palmroll, palmroll, palmroll. I keep on doing this until the dread is nice and knotty.

The front ones I did this with and they're nice and knotted. The back ones I just backcombed and they keep on falling out. Going to try to do with the back what I did with the front.

    Good luck!

i did that with a couple of them

one bad thing is im not looking forward to going out in public and having to deal with random peoples questions all the time. The crochet thread really doesnt help either.

I think you should go right to the ends when you backcomb, i mean like you have an inch or maybe more after the ties that are still untouched.

they looked a lot more goofy cause the threads where like twice as long (easier to tie) but i trimed them. I dont have a hat besides a beanie, so i should probably get a tam or whatever there called.

I wanna keep the strings in to make sure i dont rip them apart like i did last time. I'll probably only keep them in for another week or maybe even less. Plus im kinda ruff on them when i sleep i roll around alot.

The strings do make me look super goofy you should have seen all the looks i got when i went to some garage sales today. Hard to believe how many adults will just fucking stare at you, but i did get a compliment from one lady today which was awesome, she even knew i was dreading it.

i wonder what kind of adult people is walking around in your place. i have still not met a single person older then 35 that know anything about drealocks, and very few under 30. i like that lady already, even tough i dont know anything about her.

GL with your dreads mate, dont mind the stares

I've been using wool to keep mine sectioned at the base. Being just a tie of wool, it will slide around a bit but I've found that sorta works for ya in tightening things up as you push 'em back into place. Also, it comes in better colours than glaring white.
