Hi all, I'm currently building up my collection of music, and am interested in the following genres of music:

Trance, Ambient, New Age, Chill Out & Trip-Hop.

Would anyone be able to suggest groups and artists tha produce music like this, groups and artists that you like, and that you think I might like.

If you check out my Songs and Music page on my website, you'll see a collection of artists that I already know about and like (scroll down), so while you're more than free to comment on the ones I've already got listed, I'm looking for new names.

    Thank you very much :)

Your page doesn't load up properly, at least on my comp.
Massive Attack is, of course, the must in trip hop and Tricky is great.

What browser are you using? I take it that you get the white loading page? If you leave it long enough (or maybe refresh a few times, you might be OK
Oh sure, you can't go wrong with Massive Attack (although I didn't like their latest stuff all that much - but teardrop is a classic). Never heard of Tricky.

Here, let me see if I can paste my list into vB:
    • Mike Oldfield
    • Orbital
    • Future Sound of London
    • Delerium
    • Enigma
    • Zero Seven
    • Groove Armada
    • Massive Attack
    • U.N.K.L.E.
    • Aphex Twin
    • The Prodigy
    • Jean Michel Jarre
    • Enya
    • Dusted
    • Clannad
    • Chicane
    • The Prodigy
    • Charlotte Church
    • Michael Jackson
    • Madonna
    • Queen
    • Fat Boy Slim
    • Moby
    • Chemical Brothers
    • Sarah Brightman
    • Paul McCartney
    • Daft Punk

Amon Tobin and Bonobo are my favorite ambient artists. Check them out!
Dominic Gaudious is very different as well...he's a more complex type of ambient.
Dead Can Dance...i dont know what genre that is, but it's gooood
Other Ambient artists i like are Air, crystal method, Moorcheeba, Fantomas, Primal Scream, Shpongle, Iio, and Delerium to name a few...

Yeah, Dead Can Dance is great chill music. Don't know how to describe the genre though.. A bit of medieval folk ambient? :)

For triphop kinda music try Amon Tobin, Thievery Corporation or Red Snapper, great ambient music!
I'm not really into trance but I like music of bands like Faithless or Underworld. Crystal Method is great as well. And music like Lunatic Calm and Propellerheads.

as far as genre's go i don't really go much by any of them, but here are some of my favourites you might enjoy, not really that techno based but very similar.

lamb- fear of fours. is a good start, slow and groovy, lots of jazz style bass lines and a very enchanting lead singer

death in vegas- the contino sessions...bit out there, nice 'trippy' music, interesting lyrics, all guest-sung by different artists

the dust brothers - fight club soundtrack. if you've seen the movie and can remember the music...if not, get it anyway! some of the best music i've ever heard. ever. the most amazing soundscape i've ever had the pleasure of hearing! it blew my mind.

portishead- portishead. sheer lovely, similar to lamb but way more laid back. the lead vocalist is incredible.

radiohead- hail to the thief, amnesiac, kid a. shameless plug, i'm a big radiohead fan. hail to the thief is a bit rocky but overall its very trippy and musically its excellent. amnesiac is very 'alternative' and experimental, as is kid a. personally i prefer amnesiac.

good listening and i hope you enjoy what you find...no one appreciates music enough anymore. If considered from a classical perspective, techno in all its various incarnations, particularly the more experimental and alternative types, seems to be the next progression of 'classical' music...i wonder what we'll be listening to in 50 years...and to tell you the truth i'm quite interested in finding out!

Fight Club is one of the best soundtracks ever, and i even don't like that kind of music.
    Radiohead, The Bends.
